Merge DLC plugins

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 7:06 pm

I have run up against the ESP/ESM 250 count limit and would like to free up some space. I know nothing about merging mods but now I have no choice but to learn if I want to install more mods. To start with, I would like to merge the DLC plugins (I use all of them) with their related Unofficial Official Mods patches. Is this advisable? Has anyone done this? Anyone know if that has been done and can be downloaded?

Thanks in advance for any advice you have.

Have you used TES4Edit? That is the tool you need to merge the patches onto the originals. The messy thing here is that the UOMPs that are not mergeable are so because they contain new records. The first thing you have to do is find those records and use TES4Edit's copy into as new record option. The rest you can simply drag over and overwrite the originals, by, in the right frame, dragging the changes over on top of the originals. My mind is fuzzy right-now, but I think you can right-click on a group of records in the tree, and use a batch-type command to override the originals with the changes all at once.

Thanks for the quick answer. Funny, the inspiration for this came from your Goole page, ready it all last night. Keep it up, it inspired me to start from scratch (just finished wiping my computer and re-installing Win7 Pro 64-bit. So now I am moving back my mod files and will try using BAIN instead of OBMM. I used BAIN before, only switched to OBMM recently.

So your answer is yes, so now I will read the manual for TES4Edit and see what I can do.

Oh, sweet. When I get back I can answer any questions about making the patch, if someone does not get to them before me.

Have fun! You can really spend hours messing around with that program, patching your setup to a ton of "green on yellow" goodness.

In the case of merging the DLC patches with their parent mod, you can use Gecko for this. Specifically the "merge to master" function.

Using that, when you click the button for "merge to master" you have to tell it you want an ESP, grab the DLC, then it'll ask you for another ESP, which should be the patch file. When you're done, the DLC will contain the edits from the patch and any new records it held. You'll need to then make sure the DLC is marked as an ESP, because Gecko will have marked it as an ESM in the process.

I forgot about that feature of TES4Gecko. I need to make note of it, so that I do not forget again.

Thanks Arthmoor,

Well that sounds too easy, too good to be true. But I do not doubt your expertise, I use most of your mods, so I will give that a go. Much appreciated.
