Total fog?

Post » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:26 pm

The fog of Morrowind has never really bothered me. The only thing I didn't like was things popping up from the blue sky.. Ofcourse I have MGE and Distant land. But I really would like to know how it feels to have complete fog. So is there any way to remove the skydomes and just have fog?

I too would like to know about this, and if you can put it so the fog is so thick you cannot see more than a couple of feet in front of you. I mean, not regularly; but the idea that you could go out on a day of some curse like the steven king movie/book "the mist"

Gray sky texture maybe

How exactly would I get those? or how can I make them myself?
And does gray also work on every weathertype?

Shouldn't It just be the color of the fog, so that you can't see things popping up anymore, because that's the problem with the current sky textures

AnOldFriend's Sky Replacer has some nice fog sky textures.

It looks really nice, but then again it's for every weather type but I would love to have that sky during some of the days.

So mayby someone could explain how I can replace skydomes for every weathertype, and if I can also make my own simple ones just existing of 1 color so it blends in with the fog.

I don't understand the problem. That sky texture only appears when it's foggy, for the other weapon types it obviously uses http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/57416-1291679516.jpg http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/57416-1284639575.jpg.

To put it simple.... I want it foggy all the time....
Because I dislike the fact that things suddenly pop up from the blue sky and other kind of skies.
Because well.. that will make the fog much more realistic and have more atmosphere.

The FPS Optimizer allows you to set the Fog at twice the maximum distance.
This is a pretty fair distance, and then the Fog is still there.

I actually prefer it to Distant Land, so the island still looks mysterious and gloomy.

edit: I'm no MGE expert, but can't you use Distant Land and still have Fog at the same time?

but doesn't the same thing occur in the FPS optimizer that these white shades suddenly pop up from the blue sky?

I'm totally not familiar with texture making and such... but isn't it quite easy to make skies simply of the color wich matches with the color of fog in that weather?

Not sure what you mean by "white shades suddenly pop up from the blue sky"
Fog is in the game to prevent that. The Fog makes everything slowly fade in and out of view so that there never is popping.

Or do you mean that you dislike that the Fog is white?
You can change the colour of it in the ini. But blue Fog looks even worse IMO. Then the sky seems to be merging with the land all the time.

Take a look at http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Utilities.Detail&id=75 to see an example of how you can tweak your ini sky settings. Those four settings are what control how the sky and fog look. With practice you could have them meld into one.. which might be what you want?

There is a very advanced fog customization table in MGEgui. Complete with wind speeds for each weather. You can set negative values there to make fog ticker.

edit: I am not at home so I can't tell but wait...,
http://fullrest.ru/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=16756

it is under weather settings.

Okeey,
Simple example.
When you are in Balmora and walk from the odai river up the stairs towards the Manor district you can't see the towers at first. later they emerge from the fog because they pop up with white textures and slowly get their colours back. But because you're partially looking up the towers suddenly pop up in the blue parts of the sky because the sky is blue not white.
that's why I simply want the skies gone or:

EgyptRaider, do you mean http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/7290/bleck.jpg? And if I'm getting this right, you want the sky to be the same color as the fog? I think I know of a way to do this, but it would need someone good with shaders to do it. MGE can get fog color, if I remember correctly.

Yes! that's exactly what I mean!

I think I might know what you want raider.
Try these settings in MGE.

shadermodel:
3.0 If your video card doesn't support this then the rest of my settings won't look right in game.

render state:
Make sure fog is enabled

Distant land:
check autoset other distances and check by above water fog end

Fog:
set above water fog start to 0 and 1 for end
check use exponential fog ( requires shader model 3.0)

check distant statics
far 600
veryfar 800

See if this is kind of what you are wanting. There is a strange ring of fog that surrounds you with these settings and you might find it distracting, but beyond that ring of intense fog the fog is nice.
