Rome Total War Mods

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:33 am

I'm reinstalling RTW from Steam and am looking for some good mods. What are the best places to find them? Also, I'm particularly interested in fantasy mods or medieval-type mods.

Extended Greek Mod
Diadochi Total War

These are the only mods I've tried and actually liked for RTW.

Thanks, guys.

Also, I just noticed that I have Medieval Total War 2 as well. What are some good places to get mods for that game?

TWCenter is the place for any TW game mods. Just click on the forums tab, and you will see a Medieval mods section.

For Medieval, I would try out Stainless Steel. Great work.

For Rome, Europa Barbarorum is damn good, if not the best RTW mod.

Extended Greek Mod
Diadochi Total War

These are the only mods I've tried and actually liked for RTW.

Both those are good recommendations. You can also try Europa Barbarorum if you want a really intense and historically accurate campaign. Rome Total Realism is also good in this department. Personally, I use http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=1101. It's very similar to Extended Greek Mod, but has a greater emphasis on character and cultural traits. I also like the balancing of it more.

Shame they don't have a decent mod hosting site for the TW games. I've seen several TW mods with dead Filefront links and what not.

Third Age is fore Medieval 2 with the Kingdoms expansions, though I think there is one called Second Age for Rome.

The only mod I use is one to change the Spartan Warriors to look better since the look by default doesn't really fit them. I do not remember where I got it though, I have had it for quite some time.

Rome: Total Realism is, well, realistic. It may leave some nations extremely strong and others ridiculously weak, but personally I like the way wars between super powers end up as wars of attrition, and of extermination.

Thanks, guys! Also, another question. If I run RTW on low settings, it plays fairly smooth. So what can I expect with M2TW?

For it to run a whole lot worse. I can run RTW on medium setting with large units without any hassle, but MTW2 is slow and choppy by comparison, with less detailed units. Certain areas of the campaign map run smoother though, namely The areas covered by the Byzantines, the Muslim Factions and Russia. Italy is the slowest region.

Mora's got it right on this one. If your only getting fairly smooth FPS at low setting for RTW, M2TW will be a hellish experience.

My laptop which is subpar for gaming runs both games on medium settings, though I do not do the actual manu battles for campaign mode, and I don't seem to have much issue with it. I don't really use any mods except for the above mentioned unit replacer for the Spartan Hoplites but for Medieval 2 I use Retrofit on the occassion I play the stock campaign, otherwise I mainly play Third Age.
