Northern lights!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:24 am

Where I live we see the lights any winter night that is cloud free. They are an awe inspiring sight and I have never grown tired of them. They change before your eyes yet you can't really see them changing. Beautiful dancing elusive colors in the sky.

I'm not sure if they could be done justice with animation and I am afraid I would not be impressed. I'm not even sure if such a thing would exist in such a world.

I know most wish to see them in game but I have huge reservations about it.

Hehe, nothing like in real life I guess, but who knows? Bethesda has some very very talented guys on their team and I am sure they have talked about this matter. We just have to wait and see I guess., anyway, a beautiful dawn in Skyrim will be epic aswell, and I know that will be in the game, since they had it in Oblivion, the view fra Anvil was epic!!

Ooh! Yeah! Like, I bet there is some sort of Dive Rock area in Skyrim and to watch the sun rise over the tops of the snow-covered peaks. Ahhhhh...so pretty.

I live to far south to see them durring winter, but we still get the snow...figures. <_< Though, 5 years ago for one night I did get to see them in my area. Man they were cool. Only time in my life I got to see something like that. Pretty damn cool, and I'd like to see it in game.

Lights in the northern skies would ACTUALLY BE IMPORTANT, because it's SO CHARACTERISTIC from those latitudes, duh. I hadn't thought about it, but now you bring them to the table it's hard to skip such element of immersion so belonging to this context.

I would be surprised if they didn't include the Northern Lights as a weather effect for the more Northern reaches of the game world. One thing about TES that's always struct me visually since Morrowind is the way the sky, particularly the night sky, looks. Think of the first time you noticed the sky in Shivering Isles. I can admit, I was awed. It would be a huge waste of an opportunity if they didn't include the Northern Lights.

Heh, first playthrough of the Shivering Isles I was wandering around an it became night for the first time. I just looked up at it for a good five minutes. Started to walk then, but kept looking at the sky. Then something hit me and I jumped a good five feet off my seet. :whistling: Scared the jinkies out of me, cause the sky had taking all of my attention. It really was amazing to look at.

Well, I am not so concerned about it being in the vanilla game, but if it isn't, then SOMEONE HAS TO MOD IT IN AT SOME POINT!

That being said, for the sake of console gamers, I hope they do add them into the vanilla game. It would be so amazing watching them over the reflection of the frozen water at the ports of Solitude.

Wouldn't be a big deal for me. I can just go outside at night if I want to see northern lights. One of the perks of living in the last frontier.

I would love to see Northern lights, but some lore thingy to explain them needs to be invented, I think.
In our world its caused by solar particles interacting with the earths magnetic field.
Does Tamriel even have one of those? And the sun is magical in nature too.

Maybe its the magic from the void that falls to Tamriel and lights up in its atmosphere?
Aurora Tamrialis.

Some belief in the Dream Sleeve or something.

Alas, though I live in Canada, I live too far south to see them. I will have to make a point of seeing them one of these days. Pics just don't do them justice. But yes I'd love to see them in Skyrim. Would very much add to that northerly atmosphere. Hell, Rune had them . . . but they also had Bifrost, and Asgard :P Well, kind of.
