Wyre Mash Help?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:24 pm

If you're running several texture replacer packs, and using Wyre Mash to manage them. . . how do you tell it the load order?

I'm using several texture packs that have some overlap, and trying to figure out how to make them overlap the way they're supposed to, but keep the handy easy-to-uninstall"ness" that Wyre Mash gives me.

Thanks in advance for the help everybody!

What way is this exactly? You can have files in one mod be installed over another by using install last, or you can just install missing if you dont want files from one to go over another. Uninstalling a mod which has replaced files of another one will bring back that file that got replaced.

Of course there is always the option to simply remove files yourself if there are duplicates.

I understand the overwriting. Wyre Mash has a tool for dealing with texture replacers, which i'm trying to use because it keeps them separate and easy to uninstall. What i'm wondering is when you have multiple replacers, and there is overlap, how it determines which ones to load last.

I don't think you can, since they don't use esps.
You would have to install them manually if you wanted to mix and match the textures. (keeping in mind that whatever is installed last overwrites identical files, of course)

You most certainly can, that's the entire point of using the Installers feature for non-esp "mods".

Wrye Mash will maintain the files in downwards order as they are listed in the Installers tab. So if you have:

1. Has file "a", "b", "c"
2. Has file "a", "d"
3. Has file "b", "d", "e"

Wrye Mash will make sure the real files in your Data Files are "c" from #1, "a" from #2, and "b", "d", and "e" from #3.

So it loads last whichever one is last in your Installers order (different than your Morrowind Mod Load Order). Details are at http://wryemusings.com/Wrye%20Mash.html#InstallersTab in the "Ordering" section, but I think what you want to know is this:

? General

? Install order is shown the table in the "Order" column.

? All packages are moved to just before the ==Last== marker when Bain first encounteres them.

? Order can be changed by right clicking on a package (or group of selected packages) and selecting "Move To". Just enter the position to which the packages should be moved. If you're moving many packages at once, they'll keep their relative order, with the "oldest" moving to the specified position, and the others following after it.

Edit: You can also look at the "Conflicts" tab for each package, which will tell you about files that it overwrites or is overwritten by, so you can make sure you are getting the order of overwriting you want.

I didn't realize the Installer Tab went that deep into detail.
Thanks for clear description.

Thank you very much!

I just needed to do this through the installers tab instead of the apparently inferior "resources" function.
