I did a search on Google but found no results. Is there a mod which stops people who you can trade with from equipping new clothing/armour which you've just sold to them? I hate to be fussy; it just irritates me to see them wearing half casual clothing, half Dark Brotherhood armour.

No, it doesn't, I believe, but you could sell them something you'd rather them have equipped first, then enable it?

Also - isn't this also done by MCP?

Yes, it is. I highly recommend the MCP in place of Fashionable Merchants, if only for the many other useful fixes MCP provides.

I thought I already had MCP downloaded, but found out I hadn't...installed now and working fine.
