I haven't played them yet but from what I've understood the problem with online mods is that Oblivion just isn't suited for multiplayer.
I know from Oblivion Reborn that all you can currently do is walk together with other players, but nit more as only animations and equipment are synchronized.
It's like the other players are synchronized with NPCs in your game so that those NPCs act like the other players do in their game, but you can't fight them or anything like that.
And it will never ever get near something like a MMORPG.

God I wish people wouldn't equate multiplayer with MMORPGs every time this was brought up.

This.
Its annoying.

The ability to 2-4player LAN with my brothers in Oblivion would be freaking awesome. And that doesnt even need the internet, letalone something like an MMO.

As I've always said; Co-Op Multiplayer would be awesome. MMO would just get annoying, dun wanna ruin the experience from such a great game with millions of stupid people running around shouting "noob" etc.

In one world there can play max 32 players it's not a millions and if u don't like one of those 32 you can kick him.... If we adapt few mods like Alternative Start, ooo,MMM, TM etc... and creat a new story line it would be awesome MMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Practically impossible though, unless you are a pretty much godlike programmer. Sorry to crash and burn your hopes, but it ain't gonna happen.

In any case, as previously pointed out, discussion of this topic on these boards is at the very least heavily frowned upon, if not outright not allowed.

Oblivion is a single player RPG. Dont forget this, loads and lots of variables wouldnt be able to differ between the characters, making it impossible ever to be more than single player.
Of course every code can be improved, but it would make no sense in terms of oblivion, why? with tons of first quality mods, this one shakes everything down for years to come.

I have no doubt that bethesda programmers will include an online part in TES V, if its ever released. the arena for example would be a wonderful place where we could exchange pleasantries,
even in team mode.

RPGS like Oblivion will not run as MMO for presumably the next decade. MMO RPGS use very simplified collision and objects models
think about 200 players in imperial city, buying changing, kicking around cats and stealing stuff, all this data has to be updated to every client in milliseconds.
battles would be the most timecritical part, I doubt this would even work on a highspeed LAN at the moment with more than hundred players.
(assuming that programmers naturally do nuthin without getting paid before!)

but if you feel alone in oblivion world, just cease it for a moment, theres hundreds of modders right at that moment racking their brains :banghead: ....

PS: btw, if you try to go for any online RPG, dont use oblivion, ever! this is the most advanced bug[censored] to program you will ever see in your life!
I have done one mod, and I will never do one again. I am really shocked what bethesda produced, but on the other side its a miracle to see what all this modders have achieved.
forget everything about programming you know, now OOA, OOP, data models, Objects, data encapsulation...forget it.
think about the worst IDE ever, completely uncomplete docs and all so uptodate, you'll find apollo 11 programing docs on them eventually.
no fault tolerance, no complete syntax checking, you'll see thousands of signs across your screen...and somewhere the bug has to be (probably the best part
about writing mods...you ll get used to it).......and noone who'll spend you a coffee for free.

as far as i know, NEVER ask someone, NEVER, to make oblivion an Online RPG, riding on a bike across the ocean to japan and ask for FFO would be way easier.

It's not a question of it being possible or practical, the fact is that the players who generally play single player oriented games like Oblivion don't want anything to do with multiplayer games or the people who play them (For various reasons I wont get into as it would certainly cause an endless flame war). We the players, don't want multiplayer ruining our fun.

Bethesda understands that, but like how they moved onto making console games to please the masses they will probably do the same with multiplayer in the future.

To be honest I would pay the same prica agin as for GOTY, if they only would update the gamebryo engine, and deliver a better IDE/CS.
With all this mods i ant think of a cpu fast enough to handle the code. Ideas arre still plenty. but i wont break my nerves agin nor tempt them.

I will try to go for a fullscreen TV plasma effect shader to use with mame, the only thing I really miss and havent found yet, but would be incredibly nice.
the guy who wrote the shader books is educated in law, just as me! hopefully it helps.... :grad:
