Oblivion is a single player RPG. Dont forget this, loads and lots of variables wouldnt be able to differ between the characters, making it impossible ever to be more than single player.
Of course every code can be improved, but it would make no sense in terms of oblivion, why? with tons of first quality mods, this one shakes everything down for years to come.
I have no doubt that bethesda programmers will include an online part in TES V, if its ever released. the arena for example would be a wonderful place where we could exchange pleasantries,
even in team mode.
RPGS like Oblivion will not run as MMO for presumably the next decade. MMO RPGS use very simplified collision and objects models
think about 200 players in imperial city, buying changing, kicking around cats and stealing stuff, all this data has to be updated to every client in milliseconds.
battles would be the most timecritical part, I doubt this would even work on a highspeed LAN at the moment with more than hundred players.
(assuming that programmers naturally do nuthin without getting paid before!)
but if you feel alone in oblivion world, just cease it for a moment, theres hundreds of modders right at that moment racking their brains :banghead: ....
PS: btw, if you try to go for any online RPG, dont use oblivion, ever! this is the most advanced bug[censored] to program you will ever see in your life!
I have done one mod, and I will never do one again. I am really shocked what bethesda produced, but on the other side its a miracle to see what all this modders have achieved.
forget everything about programming you know, now OOA, OOP, data models, Objects, data encapsulation...forget it.
think about the worst IDE ever, completely uncomplete docs and all so uptodate, you'll find apollo 11 programing docs on them eventually.
no fault tolerance, no complete syntax checking, you'll see thousands of signs across your screen...and somewhere the bug has to be (probably the best part
about writing mods...you ll get used to it).......and noone who'll spend you a coffee for free.
as far as i know, NEVER ask someone, NEVER, to make oblivion an Online RPG, riding on a bike across the ocean to japan and ask for FFO would be way easier.
