Population Mods

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:34 am

Hello,

I use the standalone of MMM's Increased Spawns, Not Alone in the Wasteland and MTC Wasteland Travelers. I like mods like these the most because it brings back the encounter dynamic of previous fallouts and updates it to the FPS environment in Fallout 3. I tried Attentater's Wasteland Economy but there were a couple aspects of it I didn't like or thought was unnecessary.

However, there are still enormous swaths of the game that are deserted even with these mods active. I was wondering if anyone knew any other population mods besides the ones I listed. I would also be interested in knowing if anyone ever considered making a mod with Regulator/Talon/BoS/raider patrols throughout the wasteland that travel back and forth on set routes (kind of like the MTC travelers), not just hanging around their usual ambush sites.

Thanks for all that the modding community does for Fallout 3.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11035

Using the "Patrol Only" esp from http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11729 will spawn patrols of Enclave/Raiders/Wastelanders/Talons/creatures who travel to the nearest map marker and battle along the way. Vertibird patrols included. The release thread should be around here on the first few pages. I'll be back with a link.

Thanks for the reply,

I have a question about the second mod. In the description, it lists a bunch of things I don't have/don't care to have. The two things I don't care to have is FOOK and the Point Lookout DLC. The only DLC I have is OA and Broken Steel, and I didn't get any of the others because I just wasn't impressed with the new content. Yet, some of the patrols include Point Lookout DLC. I also don't have FOOK because I don't care for a full-scale overhaul of modern-day weapons when I'm playing FO3. Are all of those mods listed required for the patrol mod to function?

Also...I've been playing FO3 a long time but never checked out FOSE. How does it work (briefly)?

FOOK2 (and the other mods) are only needed for the whole Overhaul mod from the link. The Patrol Only esp is separate. It requires all of the DLCs but Zeta though. You could edit the file, removing the DLC spawns and masters for the two DLCs you don't have.

FOSE just extends scripting capabilties giving modders more to work with. It's a few files you paste into the same folder as your Fallout 3 exe (not into the Data folder). If you are using FOMM, FOMM will auto-detect it and create a new button on the side called "Launch FOSE". You start the game from there.

Would you happen to know how this is done? I haven't even opened up the GECK before. If the patrol only esp really does spawn faction NPCs around the wasteland and use default weapons then this is exactly what I am looking for.

I never knew it was so simple, thanks. I'll check that out.

You don't need to use FOMM in order to launch the game with FOSE, you can also do it using the fose_loader.exe file. Simply make a shortcut and put it where you want it, desktop or quick launch etc. then open up properties. From there you can change the icon so it looks exactly like the default launcher.

I went and downloaded FOSE and got it to work. For so long I thought there was more to it than this, I don't know why, just didn't bother checking it out. Thanks.

Would you happen to know how to make the changes to an .esp as ghoulsrpeople2 described?
