Having trouble with retextures!

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:00 am

So I just got Morrowind (it was on sale on Steam :P So I am a new player).
I have plenty of experience with mods with Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas and Morrowind doesn't seem to be any different.
I've downloaded many of the texture replacing mods from Povuholo's list and copied the texture files into the data files folder of my Morrowind game: Richer Textures, Connary's Textures, and pretty much everything else down that list until "Other graphics mods".
Stuff that doesn't require .esp plugins. Just to test them.

Ingame, the textures aren't changed at all. I removed the textures folder and launched the game.. and it looks exactly the same as when the textures folder is there.

Is there some kind of archive invalidation program that I need for Morrowind? I couldn't find one.
I don't know what to do with this game. :P

I'm using Windows 7 Home 64 bit if that makes any difference.

Do I need to unpack the bsa packages and then delete the bsas? :P

This is a problem with how Morrowind's BSAs work.
Basically, they contain all of Morrowind's default textures, but if there is a newer file available in Datafiles, Morrowind will use that instead.

The issue is that being downloaded from Steam means that the BSAs are very recent, depending on when you downloaded Morrowind.
You need to make a change to the files to change their date modified.

Something like ShellToys should work, but anything which can change their date modified ought to work.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/Attribute-Changer.shtml is another option for you. Easy to use.

It should be mentioned, you'll want to date them to 2002

Aha, yes.
I changed the dates and now I see the changes.

Thanks a lot :)
