Convert sims 2 meshes to morrowind

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:38 am

I really love what you are doing with this! I always looked with sadness to all those beautiful Sims 2 objects that I couldn't convert due to lack of knowledge, so your project is very welcome.

Oh, and about the meshes being free, I think that the only thing you need to do to convert and redistribute them is to give credit to the original authors in the Readme, that is unless they state clearly that they don't give permission to use their creations, so I think there is no problem.

Keep the good work going!!

Yes, that's it. I'm going to give the appropiate credit to the authors.

I don't want to saturate the forum, so i've decided upload the collection just in one pack to Planet Elders Scrolls. Also I've corrected the bounds of the objects (too small).

And a separate resource:

You really should at least attempt to get permission from the original creators IMO.

Just another reminder folks:

Using the assets from one game and using them in another is not permitted. If they are custom made assets then there is no problem.

No, but the authors release them as "free". So no problem, I suposse so.

Ianol, and I haven't gone to where they were released, but there's a difference between "free as in beer" and "free as in freedom" (silly English language). You could release something for free- as in, no money changing hands- but still retain rights to distribute it (ie, "free as in beer"). Or you could release something for free, and also release the rights to distribution, modification etc ("free as in freedom"). In the US, at least, anything you draw/model/write is automatically copyrighted. Unless it's licensed under something like the Creative Commons, even if you release it for free it doesn't mean someone can come along and re-release it. Example: I put a drawing online, copyright me. Anyone can see it, download it, print it out and hang it on their bedroom wall, but they can't put it on their own website, even if they're not charging money.

Oh, and about the meshes being free, I think that the only thing you need to do to convert and redistribute them is to give credit to the original authors in the Readme, that is unless they state clearly that they don't give permission to use their creations, so I think there is no problem.

Addendum to clarify: The default state of a creative work is that you can't come along and do anything to it and release it; rights are by default reserved to the creator of the work. At least, that's my understanding of the law in the USA, and I'm not a lawyer or remotely close to one. In short, there could be a problem.

To clarify:

I get the author's permission when it was possible. Sometimes the author is missed because of a long time of inactivity.

I think that my resources should be used with no profit motive in mind, so no problem, be calm. The most important thing is to give the proper credit.
