Launching With FOSE

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 4:45 am

I just installed a new mod, CASM. And when I went to start Fallout 3 through FOSE (through FOMM), it came up with Fallout 3 in windowed mode with a black screen then it came up with an error and said Fallout3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

If you don't have the GOTY version of Fallout 3, or if you got the game off Steam, check your fallout3.exe file - it needs to be patched to 1.7.03 for FOSE. If it's an earlier version, you can find the patch http://fallout.gamesas.com/eng/downloads/updates.html. You should be patched to the latest version anyway - it fixes lots of bugs from previous versions. If you have the retail GOTY edition, you'll already be patched up to 1.7.03.

Double check your FOSE installation - the .dll files from the archive and the fose_loader.exe file have to be in the same folder as your fallout3.exe file.

I already patched it because it wouldn't start at all before I installed the patch. And I do have GOTY version. All the .DLL files are in the right folder, along with fose_loader.exe. So any more options to fix this?

Are you using any other mods besides CASM? Check your load order in FOMM and make sure casm.esp is loading below all of your .esm files.

Also, try launching FO3 normally - i.e. not using the fose loader.

You didn't by any chance get your copy of Fallout 3 from Direct2Drive, did you? If you did, then FOSE is incompatible and you'll have to uninstall it.

Check your fallout 3 folder, where your .exe file and the fose loader file are located, and locate the fose.log and fose_loader.log files. Open these up in Notepad and check them for error messages. You could copy and paste them here onto the forum as well - it might help with troubleshooting.

I feel bad about this - I got you into this mess. :( I'll do as much as I can to get you out of it.

It's ok I'll figure it out somehow... and I bought the game at Best Buy. Also, someone else also recommended CASM, so it's not your fault.

It annoys me that the site says "Used in combination, they can bring new life to the Capital Wasteland and turn your copy of Fallout 3 into a desperate fight for survival.".

More like "Used in combination, they can seriously ???? yo ???? up."

Anyway, FOSE disables GFWL by itself... No separate modifications required.

Could that be the problem? (last line of quote) I've never used any Windows Live games before.
