First time EVER playing Morrowind

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:52 am

So I just bought the Bethesda Holiday Mega Pack on Steam, and decided to install Morrowind first...

What sort of visual/gameplay tweaking mods should I download? I'm not looking for complete game altering mods, just simple ones.

It depends on how powerful your computer is really. In any case make sure to use texture and mesh replacers for graphics.

...and you should broadcast gameplay videos Gix-style so that I can vicariously enjoy your enjoyment of playing the game for the first time.

I would encourage you to play it unmodded for your first time, with the exceptions of the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19510 (makes playing safer) and the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:UMP (cleans many, many smaller bugs). Get to know Morrowind, and the world. When you're comfortable with it, try out MGE, Better Bodies, and one of the major texture replacers like the Visual Pack.

gnomesrule's suggestion is a very good read when you're ready to start adding things. Otherwise, I suggest http://btb2.free.fr/morrowind.html.

I'm having trouble installing the Morrowind Code Patch.. I've transferred all the files to the Morrowind file and ran it, but it says it can't find the morrowind.exe

Any solutions?

I'm in the same predicament as our Irish fellow.

Given that our versions of Morrowind: GoTY editions are Steam downloads, we don't have an .exe file-- or many components within our Morrowind file we would have with a disc download. We have internet short-cuts for game activation.

Or so I think.

"How do I install mods on the Steam version of Morrowind?" is the question.

There's still an exe, Steam isn't transcendental yet. Look in \Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Morrowind\

The thing is, I've done this. I followed the instructions provided with the MCP and it still can't find the morrowind.exe file. I'll try uninstalling then reinstalling again.

Have you tried putting MCP in the same folder as the exe and then running it as administrator?

Do you mean literally put all the files INTO the Morrowind folder, or in where Morrowind folder is?

Morrowind Code Patch.exe and all it's folders must be in the same folder as Morrowind.exe.

I've done this, and I get the same results. Do I merge the Data Files that come with the MCP with Morrowinds Data Files?

The only file within Data Files that comes with MCP is just a showcase plugin, you do not need to use it while playing.

Edit: Yay! First star under my avatar!

OK I just did a bit of searching, and it may be that I'm putting the mods into the wrong directory all together. There are two different directories for Morrowind via Steam, I'm using the wrong one! lol..
