Fan-Fictions. Your preferences.

I'm just curious, What kind of stuff do people prefer on this forum, and what kinda stuff just bombs? I made a Fan-Fic http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=924155 But No-one commented on it, so I assumed they didn't really enjoy it. Prehaps it was the way it was written? (like a diary?) or is it because my writing skills lack somewhere?

So what kind of Fan-Ficitons do you like? and how do you like it written?

Personally, I prefer it written in first person, with lots of detail.

What kind of stories do you like?

I like important characters back stories, or some unkowns rise to fame and power

I'm intrested to hear your thoughts...

Personally I like anythign that is good reading. Anythign full of adventure, maybe destruction and war. Or mayeb a peacefull log of some character. Doesn't matter how it is written to me.

I like the weak guy who doesn't necessarily have the magickal or physical skills but has the wit to get around. And I like when he's not out to get 'revenge' or 'some awesome treasure' he's just caught up in the middle of something and he's making his best out of what he can. He's not out to impress anyone, he's just your average man trying to get out with his life, and maybe a little coin if he can. :foodndrink:

I like a good variety of things, but it is essential to me that I can see into teh character's mind and really understand what they are thinking. I'm thinking of a particular fanfic that did a great job of it, but I can't remember the name. It was about the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion, and the author did a really great job of explaining her characters' thought process.

Of course, my absolute favorite fanfic is "Of Fate, Luck, and Ambition", by BSparrow. It's a shame it hasn't bewen updated in months :(

Well, honestly, I never saw it so I can't judge it, but I'll stop by later tonight and check it out if I can remember. I've still got the last couple entries of FC4's Manic Dementia to catch up on and a small un-TES related fic from Illusionary Nothing she asked me to critique to wrap up just before she vanished for the holiday, but I'll go grab a looksee when I can. ^_^

As for your questions..

Usually third-person narrative perspective, like in a novel or an RP, and for content, it depends on the detail and how well it's written.

What kind of stories do you like?

My favorite interests in real life, book wise, are stuff dealing with apocalypse and the supernatural. I Am Legend, Resident Evil, that kinda stuff. That reflects a lot in my choices in writing and fiction reading.

I think everyone makes good points. At points I enjoy the "under dog" and "War", but mostly I like Rp's, and Stories that deal with a darker side to life, or something like that. I like it when people really open up their character's (When it calls for it), and I also like Stories and Rp's where the "Bad guy" wins, and the "Good guy" loses, it just makes for a better realism I think.

They should be as far removed as possible from the video games. Fan fiction takes place in Tamriel, not in a CD.

I have no prefrence to writing style, 1st or 3rd person. Romance or thriller. Just as long as the story is solid and i get involved. You need to try to drag the reader in, make the reader feel like they where there, pay attention to every detail, from the largest movement to the smallest fleck of dust, everything matters, the better you paint the picture, the most people will view it.

As for comments, dont worry, fan fictions dont usualy get a great deal of comments on these forums. I dont know what because some times they are really well written.

Thank you everyone, there had been some great advice. Detail and realism seem to be the greatist things to remember. The story has got to have a thick plot, and writing style doesn't really matter, I should just write in what is easier for me.

Thank you everyone.

I like stories with believable characters and a believable storyline. And like Solidor said, stories don't get the feedback they deserve. There are some really good writers here.

It probably was A Listener's Tale. AllShallfade is somewhat of a legend when it comes to fanfics. At least in my eyes.

I'm known to whine a lot how people don't critique my stuff that I post here. But I guess I'm the hypocrit because I don't take the time to read and critique other people's work. Real life can be quite demanding and at the end of the day I'm lucky if I put together a single page of my own stuff.
