Anyone playing with some self imposed rules ?

Hello,

I wonder if anyone else is trying to play Daggerfall using some kind of ironman mode rules ?
In Daggerfall what i call ironman mode (very inspired of my time spent with Jagged Alliance) is :

-death is the end of your character, no reload allowed.
-only save when you stop playing or before asking a quest/entering a dungeon (in case of crashes)
-never reload because you failed a quest, accept the outcome of it.
-accident happens (killing civilians when you didn't wanted, stealing busted by erroneous click etc...) , accept them.

I have lost many characters like this (some enemy lucky strikes are annoying ;) ) and have currently a newly created Nord with a custom made Adventurer class that just reached recently the level 2 and was nearly killed in a "kill that Daedroth" quest for the Knights of the Dragon.
But i find it more interesting as you feel a bit more involved in the action of your character and are a bit more carefull with it.
And once you have finished several time the game, it is a good way to relaunch the interest of it in case you don't know what to do.

Anyone else is playing with some self challenges, maybe would inspire some people to share your own ?

Long ago there was this thing called a "Survivor" title for Guild Wars. I went downstairs to get a Coca-Cola and a patrolling monster group I thought was far out of aggro radius killed me while I was away. Never again.

Early in my cleric's career the Temple sent me to perform an exorcism on a young child. So after I jumped through all the hoops and everything was said and done, BAM, I had to fight a daedroth. Being level 2 at the time I had, what, an elven flail? So I tried again and again to use offensive magic on it but as is expected with an opponent of a much, much higher level than me, it saved vs spell nearly every time. I don't recall ever completing that quest, actually. But anyway.

I tried playing a monk once. There's your Ironman challenge. Fist in one hand, staff in the other. 8 HP/level, no armor whatsoever and 1/2 INT for spell points. Of course, you could always make a custom variant with Restoration and 1xINT, but that would actually be a semi-viable character. There's always the canned mage class, too. I wouldn't dare restrict myself from saving in this game, though.

Ironman mode for Daggerfall is great since you can fail in this game but still succeed later on, no need to reload.

I'll have to try one of these myself, after I get more acquainted with Daggerfall. Though I might allow for more than one death.

I only restrain myself from reloading inside a dungeon or an house when on a quest, otherwise i don't mind reloading to the dungeon exit but i consider the quest failed and don't try it again. I say to myself i got a huge beating and barely managed to exit the dungeon alive.

Sort of. I don't play dead is dead, because I'm pretty good at accidentally killing myself, or most of the save thing, as I like to be able to reload at any time, so I, for example, won't have to redo an entire dungeon because of a game breaking bug two seconds before reaching the exit.

I [censored] hate that title. That title should not even exist in the first place.

As for OP question, I do not play ironman mode. It not my style and when I get bored, I tend to go nuts ingame a just start doing alot of things that would cause my death early ie guard killing and/or jumping roof to roof like some kind of crazy acrobat.

I don't play ironman, I'm have issues with making mistakes and getting killed.

What I will limit myself is mostly what I did with my disadvantages; no elven, mirthril, silver, or holy places. Other than that, I don't wear armor (or cloths) on my left arm, and I only wear straps on my chest. Any coward that I meet will die. Temples are to be pillaged, not prayed at.

I usually add role playing related rules, such that I have to play to the personality of the character that I created. My assassin, despite his willingness to kill, will not steal. My fighter/mage would never dream of letting himself turn into a vampire or werewolf. My assassin only wears light armors under a certain weight, usually leather, regardless of the actual gameplay mechanics involved. And so forth.

I have done this in other games including Oblivion and Fallout 3.

This sometimes prevents me from doing a quest a certain way simply because it would be out of character.

Never reload for a failed quest unless if you fail the quest you can't progress. This is main quest and the intro quests to thieves guild and the dark brotherhood.
