Martin is a Dragonborn...Can You Turn Into a Dragon in Skyri

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:16 am

I just received my issue of gameinformer (finally) and I found something interesting. Pg 57: "The dragonborn can battle the dragons on another level, they're anointed by the gods. That's why they can light the Dragonfires and become an emperor."

Martin required the amulet of kings to light the dragonfires and/or turn into a dragon. (perhaps summon Akatosh) Do you think you will be able to turn into a dragon in Skyrim? What is the significance of the golden claw?

Im pretty sure dragons can shapshift into humans, but I don't think it can work the other way around without the almulet. And that amulet thing was a one time deal, cause it broke.

Besides, if someone saw us change from a dragon to a human, they may get the wrong idea.

yeah, the question would then be: Are you the dragon or is the dragon you?

Y'know that makes me think.. How many dragons in human forms might we meet in Skyrim? What if some main quest-guy is a dragon in human form, trying to trick us into bad stuff or something along those lines..
Who to trust? Who not to trust? Who might be a dragon?..

Makes you think, yeah?

Kind of like in Oblivion where you weren't sure who were members of the cult that killed the king and thus your enemy. (I forget their name).

Kinda like that, yeah.. Only this is huge and very dangerous dragons. They'll eat you in the blink of an eye! Or burn you to dust!
Gotta remind myself to keep an eye out for shady types in Skyrim.. Might be dragons out to get me.

Thats a good idea! You could incorporate some sort of tell into the characters that turn out to be dragons. Maybe there are completly socially stupied, they eat raw meat, or they start hording all the shinny things in town.

A cool quest might be determining if one stranger in town that is being held as a dragon actually is one or not. ie salem trials type thing.

Lore-wise, I doubt it'll happen again. Martin's transformation killed him and shattered the Amulet of Kings; and he was only able to sustain the form for around a minute. Something like that isn't something that could be done on a whim, and even assuming you find another artifact powerful enough to facilitate such a transformation, I'd rather not have my character die in the end of the story.

Or maybe the dragons are extremely smart.. That would be my guess. They would be something noticeable, yet not so much it seems to be out of it's place.. Like a noble or another rich person, maybe someone with a middle-class/high status.

And something I just thought of. Those Greybeards.. They are so good at speaking Tongue, maybe they are dragons in disguise? Just a theory.
Another theory: That guy, Esbern.. We don't really know much about him yet, other than he's a blade and he's going to be your mentor. He might as well be a dragon, too. Would be a great opportunity to brainwash the only person who could stop the dragons, a great way to win him over to your side, making him do stuff he thinks is good, but is really bad..

This is simply referring to the dragon shouts and nothing more.

lol, like he trains a weakness into you that he can exploit in the final battle. Everyone throughout the game says stuff like, "wow your good, but there's something about your technique I just can't put my finger on..."

The thing is, Martin didn't become a dragon because he was a dragonborn, he was destroyed when he was transformed into the avatar of Akatosh when he broke the amulet.

possibly, the previous emperor was an ancestor of one of the old dragonborn, so it could possibly happen.

Exactly. We will not know before we have the game in our hands, though I am quite sure some of those dragons will try to get close to you in their human form.. Close enough to betray you and stab you in the back..

Said dragonborn also launched a war of conquest and conquer the entire continent. I doubt you'll be able to do that. I hope not, because retconning that would be very difficult, and it would probably mean "this is the last ES game".

He didn't "turn into a dragon", he turned into an avatar of Akatosh. Since that dude has like totally other plans this time, nope.

I thought it was obvious:

Martin realized lighting the dragonfires would do nothing. The veil was shattered, because Mehrunes Dagon was in Tamriel. So he smashed the amulet, and Akatosh was able to intervene. Akatosh Used martins body as a host, a willing sacrifice, to bring forth the Avatar of Akatosh, A great golden Dragon. The dragon, powered and controlled by akatosh, had one purpose. Send Mehrunes back to Oblivion, and close the Oblivion gates forever. After he did so, his purpose was complete, and he became stone. The Dragon Statue remained, as a reminder of the major sacrifice.

Well, the Dragonfires are now superfluous, so, I'm going to say: no. There's no real reason for the current emperor to hand over his crown.

Who said he has a choice? Anyway, the current emperor must not be doing a very good job since the empire is in decline and thus may need new blood to re-energize the empire with purpose and strength. That being said, I certainly don't want this game to delve into you personally running the empire and such. If we do become emperor it should be the last moments or the conclusion of the game itslef. This way we do not stray far from what we come to expect from this games predecesors and gives us an ending where we can say...wow we accomplished alot. :celebration:

There's possibly many many "Dragonborn" out there from a slightly different bloodline then the emperors of late.

For example some may be from the affairs of Alessia and Morihaus.

And frankly IF you could shapeshift into a dragon as in being a dragon then I would be very disappointed.
