Opinion Needed

Just wanted to know you guys opinion. I'm starting a character to be an all around good doer. I know for sure I'm making him(or her a breton). I also know for sure I'm making him a battlemage kinda deal or some variant of mage/fighter. My question is though which do you think is better in this case, or more fun, or whatever etc. etc. for his birthsign. I also only want to pick between mage and atronach. I also have absolutely 0 interest in switching him to Altmer. I was just seeing what you guys think, advice, comments, etc. Thank you in advance.

Both birthsigns are fun, it depends on if you only want a minor magic boost or a large boost with some draw backs (which are easily countered I might add)
I personally have always been a fan of attronach sign, mainly for primary fighter secondary mage class characters as the spell absorb is very handy, that being said I have started a primary fight character and given them the mage sign. which also works out quite well as that extra boost in magic means I can use decent heal spells.

If you want to be a better mage go for attronach, if you are going to focus on fighting more then i would recommend the mage.

Battlemage is fun and can become very powerful, I personally would still custom class it to add a more personal touch but that is entirely your choice and dependant on your play style

Bretons have better synergy with the Mage birthsign than with Atronach. This is because they have an inherent racial 50% Resist Magic, which doesn't stack additively with Atronach's 50% Spell Absorption. The two of them together only give you 75% protection against magic effects.

Breton characters only need 1 item, the Mundane Ring, to gain 100% Resist Magic. And once you are immune to magic Spell Absorption is nearly useless because it no longer protect you from harm. It will then only help you recharge your Magicka, but you would be better off not having Stunted Magicka in the first place.

I think a battlemage character is one of the few builds where The Mage birthsign actually works, because you can switch to melee combat if you run out of magicka, which isn't really an option with a pure mage.

Did you by chance mean Atronach instead of Mage? Because I find that for about 3 out of 4 characters Mage is the best birthsign.

Breton + mage is top of the line, matched only by Altmer + atronach. Since you want a Breton (great choice), I would recommend mage. Why?

Thanks for all the replies but it seems like most of your responses are geared towards defense(i.e. magic resistance). No one except for the unknown chemist mentioned the offensive aspect of it. Just curious overall.
