Official TES V Speculation Thread # 46

I certainly hope they do two discs if one isn't enough.

Two install discs would be lovely, but how would that work out for the console players?

Just like all 2-4 disc games. Content (not worldspace) is divided between discs. So if it was two discs, you'd get all of the world on each disc, including side quests and what not, but divide the main quest in two and place each half on each disc.

Nice catch. If he would have just said "employees" that could mean anything. Community Managers, etc. But the Game Studios thing directly says about the devs working on BGS's current WIP. (Most likely TES V)

Either that or they decided to read how desperate people are on the forums and are reading it out loud having a good laugh at us all when they haven't started anything on TES V

We did it with Mass Effect 2...

How was it incorporated in ME2? What was it like?

A little weird but two disc swaps is better than limiting the game.

I don't see a need for two disks really. I forget which game it was, but some game on 360 had you download a huge content patch that contained a good portion of the game they couldn't fit on the disk.

In ME2, after a certain point in the MQ, they just had a message pop up and told you to swap discs. They still had all of the accessable (sp?) areas from disc 1 on disc 2, and there wasn't really a difference in terms of available content.

That could be a big problem for people who can't connect to the internet. Personally I'd prefer to have 100% of my game on the discs included in the box.

I'm not sure if 2 (or more) discs would work to well with an ES game though. I mean I might be mistaken, but isn't the bulk of the game supposed to all be available at any time? I didn't really think that the main quest took up enough space to warrant it to be split in half for two discs. I recall them saying that on Oblivion half of the disc was voice acting (said it on the making of dvd with Oblivion collectors edition), and I really don't think that the majority of that was for the main quest (considering that there were 4 guilds, and a plethora of side quests).

I think that's exactly what everyone wants.

Maybe Bethesda could make the game require a mandatory install of one disc onto the Xbox 360, which doesn't usually require it? They did that with Fallout 3's and Oblivion's GOTY editions. I could see how plenty of people would be ticked off about that, though.

Now I'm worried that ESV won't have enough disc space to be really fulfilling.

No reason to worry about that. Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3 all have relatively small sizes for the huge game world they offers, mainly because of the plug-in system that they use. While ME2 which use the Unreal 3 engine store the game data in a rather bloated way and thus make the games rather large even though the gameworld is noticeably smaller.

Anyway, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102619-official-tes-v-speculation-thread-47/.
