Ideas for using the landmines I've collected

Post » Sat Apr 09, 2011 6:20 pm

I was thinking of setting some up in the underworld in the Museum of History for fun. It would be kind of cool to step out and come back later to find ghoul spatter everywhere. Other than that, I don't know what to use them for other than selling them. Any ideas?

I set them up in the chapel in Rivet City before the wedding.

I use mines to:

- cover an exposed flank, so I can safely attack in one direction, knowing that there will be flying limbs if I'm attacked from behind me.
- if I'm in an unknown building and faced with multiple hallways, I put a mine at the hallways that I am NOT going down first, so I know that I have covered everything, because having a map that shows all floors together can be confusing.
- pulse mine domino setups look super cool at night.
- I shop at Lucky's a lot. I often pre-mine that one corner that Talon attacks me from.
- a couple of well-placed bottlecap mines (read: thrown over your shoulder as you run screaming from a Reaver) can do wonders.
- mining the downtown DC area in some places is quite fun.

Check out mines in action at the Pennsylvania Avenue Mine Run. Marvel as Super Mutants explode into millions of pieces.

Trigger Victoria Watts' appearance
Fast-travel far away before she interrupts you
Prepare minefield
Grab popcorn
Wait on her to show up
Enjoy the show

When going into a unfamiliar or scary area that has a linear path I lay mines at chokepoints as I go so I can retreat and have my enemies be blown up by the mines. Very useful when you piss a deathclaw off and need to get away.

Minefields are very powerful... as long as you don't get caught in your own minefield by a raider with a grenade or missle launcher.

Mines are also very useful for enemies such as Mirelurks (and mines do go off underwater, of course, unlike guns).

Entrances and exits for The Courtyard at the vigilante HQ, The Citadel.
Mine it on BOTH sides of each entrance/exit, so that when those mongrels launch Liberty Prime, they don't get out alive to use it.

I'd mine the crap out of the inside of your front door to your home, to avoid having someone steal your stuff. :whisper:

Generally, I don't see much reason to use mines, but a good tactic is to go in sneak and lay a mine at the door. Then, make so noise and the idiot... I mean NPC will step right onto the landmine.

Too right.
An effective tactic against single targets straight out of the Deus Ex playbook.

Bottlecap mined Dunwich using CSA then switched to other armor and got myself 'notcied' :) Didn't trigger all the mines but was funny to walk about hearing the booms going off here and there. CSA and bottlecap mines = fun time :hubbahubba:

Perhaps learn Mr Crowley's route after he has the keys and place mines beside the cars he wanders past, in some places there are a few clustered together that can create a nice chain reaction, better at night of course.

At the end of my 2nd playthrough of Zeta I bottlecapped the places that incoming aliens spawn onto the command deck, that was fine and also had the bonus of taking out Paulson and the Samuri (at the time I was devastated I killed them, but when I saw what kit they were carrying I was well chuffed!)
