The Beta

Post » Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:15 pm

Hi, I am just curious but don't all games release a Beta? Do Bethesda release a Beta?

Do you think they will so we can try out and give opinions on how we like it and what could be improved? :D

Pretty much this. I gurentee the only way you could possibly play it before release would be at an event like E3, if your lucky. Just like with NV, where they let people play unrestricted for 30 minutes.

Betas are only really open to the public for stress tests of servers. Single-player games will only ever be tested in house or contracted to a specific testing company.

They won't release a beta. It would be stupid.

It would basically be like giving out the entire game for free.

There has never been an open beta for TES, nor a demo, and I doubt they'll start now. They do have internal betas.

I'm more interested in the Zeta version. Which we will all get a chance to test on 11.11.11.

Oh, common  . I already did a poll on this and everyone agreed it's either a pointless or a harmfull idea. And yet here I see the third thread on the topic. Sigh...

Single player games do their testing in house.

Multiplayer games sometimes hire off house test players for closed beta (Like Battlefield series have done, more on this later). Some have recruitments on their site for closed beta (what MMOs have done, RIFT, APB and so on).
There's a big difference between real beta and marketing beta. Before Battlefield Bad Company 2 went live I was testing it with certain testing group for some weeks before they released public Beta for those who pre-ordered the game. Many open betas are marketing trick more than having people squash the bugs.

In short, no Bethesda doesn't let us play their beta of Skyrim.

Besides beta testing would likely result in alot of this... http://www.toplessrobot.com/2011/01/the_greatest_game_review_of_all_time.php

Even if the game was perfect...

Most games only have a beta if they are an MMO, or have a prestigious multiplayer.. (halo reach, gears of war 3) I think bethesda would do their beta with employees or something.

NO, not all games RELEASE betas to the public but they ALL have it at least internally a phase of their development cycle. Some studios release betas (still unfinished or buggy), and some release demos (finished) before or even after the complete game has been release to the market which is a trend these days.
Finally, it has nothing to do with single or multiplayer but the latter is more of a trend these days for big titles.

If you want to try the Beta, apply as a QA at Beth's HQ. ;)

I suspect long rendering times in Final Cut. Those can take quite some time.
When I was a video editor, I was often lurking on the web when my sequences would be rendered. I also had access to the main editor's iTunes, which was filled with TV Shows and Movies. :P
