Weird Problem!

I finally got my kit-bashed dart crossbow (http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff292/VonGrantoven/DartCrossbow3.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff292/VonGrantoven/DartCrossbow2-1.jpg http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff292/VonGrantoven/DartCrossbow1.jpg ) cobbled together and running (almost) fine in the game.

To get a feel for proper damage and ballistics I started off by just replacing the stock dart gun model (which I have always hated) with the new one, and changed the animation type toTwohandrifle.
It shows up fine in the game, fires and reloads fine and I have even aligned it to use Ironsights, but ... there is NO attack sound!
The reload, drop and pickup sounds are fine, but it is totally silent when that massive dart is launched.

To confirm that the model was the problem, I replace the original dart gun model in the GECK and voila, that big rubbery twang played just fine! Swap it for my new crossbow and silence again.
Its really frustrating, as I have wanted a crossbow that fits the wasteland for ages and now it seems I am pretty close to getting one.

What is going on here??
Can somebody tell me what the problem is and how I can fix it?

OK, bit of an update on my strange crossbow sound problems.

I copied and renamed the 3D and 2D attack sounds and changed it in the GECK, but still nothing.
Then to check again if the problem is somehow related to the model, I changed the model to a kitbashed auto shotgun I made, and just like with the stock dart gun, the firing sound played just fine!

The sound problem only happens when using my new DartCrossbow.nif model.
How can that be?? I am totally stumped.

I really like the model and the longer darts and think it would be a perfect low-tech, but dangerous weapon for raiders and such (not to mention stealthy assassin types), so any help in getting this problem solved would be really appreciated!
