Pre-made classes...

Post » Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:32 am

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here have used the pre-made classes and what you think of the particular one(-s) you have played.
I have played as a Crusader, Knight, Spellsword, Warrior and Battlemage and I think they are great for roleplaying. However they seem to be less powerfull than what an experienced TES player could create, as the only ones I feel quite bad-a*s with is the Crusader and Spellsword.
What about you?

I'm pretty sure I've always had custom classes with my characters. I find that if I end up trying to play a character that had skills I'm not used to or don't like (as pretty much all the pre-made classes have), I just end up getting bored with them. I may have to try it next time I make a character though :)

My first character was a Spellsword. The other 4 all had a custom class.

I think my first character was either a spellsword or nightblade, I can't recall which, and that was only because I figured that since I was new to the game (I had of course played Morrowind before, but some things changed between games, so Oblivion's mechanics were still foreign to me.) . But aside from that, I've always used custom classes. I like the extra control over my character's abilities it affords, in the end, the standard classes just aren't going to match my preferences as well as the ones I can make myself, and that's to be expected, because the standard classes don't account for every possible combination of major skills, specialization, and favored attributes available.

I used the Mage pre-made class a couple of times before I learnt the various ways of controlling levelling and suchlike.

Now it's purely Custom to fit my rp'ing and my levelling constraints.

I used Spellsword for my "test the game out" character, and that one worked out OK, but having all the endurance skills as majors made leveling a nuisance to start with. However, raising endurance fast is not a bad problem to have, so once I'd found out how to get other attributes to raise at the same time, it was tolerable. Some of the other standard classes look like a major disaster by comparison.

Since then, it's been a custom class every time.

I've never actually looked at them.
It's better to make a custom class imo, especially with oblivion's rather strange leveling.

I always create my own class. Nothing else can satisfy every last detail I want in my characters.

I see the majority of people here like to do custom classes, and I tried to make one but I was never satisfied with it, especially when i like to RP, so I feel comfortable with the pre made classes

No, made my own Adventurer class. It′s my nature to go my own way regarding most things :)

Played the premade Assassin class and it was one of the funnest characters I played.
Playing dead is dead he lasted up until level 35.His down fall was that he was over confident and bull headed to prepare for a particular battle a little more.

I'm currantly playing the premade Barbarian class, only level 6 right now so I can't say how well it's going.
I have messed around with the premade Warrior class and felt very confident that I could have taken him to a very high level as well. But I dropped him for the Barbarian I' currrently playing.

I like alot of the premade classes, allthough some like the scout(needs marksmen in it)just aren't quit right.

I usually make custom classes, most of the premade ones don't suit my needs. Although, when I finally make a true archer character, I have to try out the Witchhunter class.

With your profile picure, I struggle to think of you playing an assasin :P

I have played two times with the pre-made classes, Sepht Vultori is a Knight, Veronica Vultori is an Assassin and my new character Sir Clyde wich is Veronica's Mentor is a custom class called Trojan Knight =D
My only favourite pre-made class is Assassin because the major skills are very well distributed especialy the Sneak, Marksman, Security, Light Armor and Acrobathics...
I've chose the Knight class in my first character Sepht because I haven't enough experience to see what was the best class for the character =D

The preset Mage and Assassin are very good but I find most of the others to be....lacking.

Back in 2002 my first character in Morrowind was a Redguard warrior. I haven't played a pre-made class since then.

Aye, my Oblivion avatar is a stock Nord Warrior. He's my first non custom-built character in any Elder Scrolls game..I've played all the numbered entries. I originally intended him as a temporary character with which to learn game mechanics. Only, I ended up relating to him so strongly that I never bothered to re-roll.

I think an advantage to playing a pre-made avatar is that in one sense it more closely matches real-world situations than a custom-built character is apt to do. Why? We are each of us born with some combination of strengths and weaknesses that at least partially determine our lots in life. We have to make do with what we are given, warts and all. A custom RPG character is normally built solely on strengths, our ideal selves as it were. Even those who choose to in some way limit their avatars' abilities tend to do so with an ideal build in mind. Ideally gimped? A pre-made class will rarely be ideal, thus more true-to-life in its way.

This is not said to knock custom-built character in any way, only to point out what I consider a strength of pre-made avatars.

Well said Decrepit.
This is the reason I like the premade classes and why, when a new player is asking for character advice I often point out the premade classes.

Call me shallow, but I like to play with pre-made classes because of the picture and the little description that goes with it...

One or two of them are actually really well balanced.

Scout, Agent and Spellsword are playable without any alteration and will not cause you many level scaling problems.
