Auto texturing, fact or myth?

I was wondering if there is a way to quickly apply a certain texture to a whole region, or do I have to use the cursor. I would think it would be the former, considering all the huge textured world spaces people have made, without a quick and easy way to apply a texture to the land, it could take months just to texture 4 quads.

Look at the http://geck.gamesas.com/index.php/Regions. You can apply textures to the land with it. :D

Hey speaking of which, with that do you HAVE to make like a 64x64 cell worldspace? because I will be having one somewhere in the area of like 20-25 cells used, total, and would love to use this tool but dont want it to generate like 3000 extra cells.
