One time when I was visiting my aunt when she was living in Jamaica, Queens the car we were using got broken into because my father had left one of the windows slightly open. Other than paper on the ground and a smashed window nothing was stolen. I consider the fire that happened when I was four to be far, far worse.

I stopped at an Arby's in the city to get some lunch, and when I walked back out the door, I saw my car driving away. Broken glass over where I parked it. I called the cops, and when they arrived, I told them what had happened. The cop didn't even listen to what I said, and actually gave me a ticket for "unattended vehicle, engine running". My doors were locked, my keys were in my hand, and there was glass all over the ground. Yeah. Cops won't help you, sad to say. Jerk never showed up at court though, so the ticket was thrown out.
