Race fans get in here!

Ok, after getting ready to start oblivion again I remember the last time I was gonna mod and play it, it ended up a disaster. too many mods, and I was always like, I need to tweak this or fix that and I spend more time tweaking and modding and D/Ling then I did playing the game.

So I got oblivion ready to play with a bare minimum or mods, but Im feeling the need to go fast, and to be honest I been looking at Race 07 and F1 2010. I decided that I have enough extra money to buy one of them, but only one.
I can get Race 07 and STCC the game as well as Race on for $29,99 from steam.
Or I can get Race on and GTR evo for $29.99.
Or I can get F1 2010 for $39.99.

Here is what I am looking for.
Longer races (I love you grid but 3 laps?) good sounds, looks are not that big of a deal, but F1 2010 sure does look good. I like all types of racing.
I want more of a sim game, so thats why I was looking at Race 07 over F1, and I also think the pack with STCC and Race on is a better deal.

I do not have a wheel, so game must work with 360 controller.
Must be very sim like.
Must have career mode, would prefer it if you had a team, or goals similar to grid.
Now codemaster made grid, and Dirt 2, both of them I love. But I really want a more sim like game, and im not sure how sim like F1 2010 is.
Now simbin made the other games, and from what I hear (besides Iracing and Rfactor) is about as close to the "real deal" as its gets.

What does BSGD say?

I am leaning twords F1 2010, but only because it looks like the "story" / "carer" looks good. but Race 07 looks like it will last longer and is more of a sim.

At last! Another Codies fan! We should have babies! Our race is dying in here! :hugs:

On a serious note, there were and are many technical problems with F1 2010. The fuel sim didn't work properly, neither did the tyre sim, nor damage sim. AI never making a single pit stop in full races and such. And the way they implemented the FIA rules was draconic. Ultimately, it is very enjoyable though and I'm still playing it. But I'd advise, wait till later on this year and buy F1 2011. We've been jabbering so much on the Codies board that it be very stupid if they didn't change anything about this stuff, even if the timeframe is relatively small. They even denied they'd spend time on another patch to fix F1 2010 so they can spend their full time on F1 2011. If you can wait, it'll be worth it. To conclude, F1 2010 is hardly more sim than DiRT 2. And its career mode wasn't exactly that innovating as I perceive you're imagining. That's the humble opinion of just one person, but I'm afraid you won't find any more in here. :violin:

Thanks!

I was burning up Grid, and I do love grid but it kills me some times, esp the le mans races. I swear one lap ill take the entire track fine then the rest of the race I can't while the whole AI force blows by me like they are on rails. But I do love the game for its effect and sounds. The effects are top notch (imo) when talking about smoke and such. THe damage is neat. The same goes for Dirt 2 as well.

I did try the demo of Race 07 (F1 2010 didnt have one) and I was sold. They game may not look all that great, but man does it really impress. I wish I has my own place again so I would have room for the wheel setup, but as I had to move back in with parents, there is just not enough room. I had the G27* picked out and money saved for it, but things happened and now I gotta start saving all over again, as well as building a seat and stand for one.

But the game works with a controller, and even at 90% the A.I was toasting me, but it was my first few laps. The F3000 car was a blast, and the BMW car was great too.

So far the demo was exactly what I was looking for. I really wish I had a wheel though.
looks like I am in for a steep learning curve.

Thats too bad about all the issues F1 2010 has, maybe the next one will be better. I really enjoied Dirt 2 and Grid for what they are, and the look great.

If you got steam hit me up, id love a good race or two.

I picked up Race 07, race on and STCC the game for $29.99. should keep my busy for a while. and now I got a goal, I hope in a month or two I can save up enough for the G27*. maybe rearrage my room so I can get a stand made to fit it.

** I said G25 not G27 oops.

And I think I can build a setup for my pryamat game chair I got for $30 that will work well if I had the room.

You're welcome!
Yeah they should really do something about the AI over at Codies. Like in F1, when someone crashed into the back of my car, it was always me who got the penalty. The AI cars always seemed to quick-start or so, because no matter what, you'd always lose like three to five places before the first corner. And Virgins started lapping at light speed once. Car twenty-four being placed twelfth. team mates trying to get you killed. A bloody nightmare at times.
Just read some threads on the board and you'll see there's much to be improved. A lot of people get insta-banned because they're so angry about the game's flaws lol.
Hope things will change for the better for you then.
Arranging a race through Steam would be a bit difficult, because I'm one of those that loathes it with passion. Perhaps there'll be another way.
You won't find me at Suzuka though. Now that track is a true nightmare. There's a corner everyone goes off, judging by posts on the board. By the way, the ranking system is pretty [censored]: the first one to hit level fifty stays there for eternity. It isn't based on recent performance. Only the time you hit level fifty. So if a real sim nut buys it only now and makes everyone online look ridiculous, he won't get the appropriate recognition for it.
Nice to have you around because it remained awkwardly quiet in here when I'd mention race sims. Which is why this thread will die a cruel death.
It's funny how I'm active at or a visitor of a multitude of boards, yet I have to run into someone I actually know from someplace else. Like no BSG'er would play TW or CoD or BiA or the other way around.

I wouldn't consider the need for speed series, even the more realistic ones like Shift. There are no long races, the AI plays really dirty, adding a sense of action.

I too am considering getting F1. I used to stay up till ridiculous times waiting for the F1 races to come on. Personally, Forza 3 keeps me occupied in terms of racing.

As you progress throughout the game, the races become longer. Turning off Traction control, stability control, and Antilocks in the options menu (along with other driver assists) gives each car a realistic and unique feel. The online community offers tuner setups for nearly every car in the game so you can get the most out any car you buy or win.

I'm sure you have forza though...Its like owning a PS3 and not having granturismo, am I right?

I love that track on FM. But so far I have been really happy with Race 07, its a really great driving game, I spent about 30 minutes before I could really put the car around the track with the controller. I had the A.I at 80% and I was only 2 seconds faster then the A.I.
They react well, and make mistakes if you pressure them (I followed some around for a bit to see what would happen) flags and flagmen are really neat too. They really wave the flag as you drive by.

Having 25 cars on track is a blast.

If you like a challenge I suggest the race 07 pack with STCC The game and Race on bundle.

I hated shift on the 360. Then I got it for the PC. its ok, but Grid is way better (imo)
I had a PS3 and a 360, but I sold them and joined PC gaming! I love my PC!
Race 07 doesn't have F1, but it does have F3000, and its way fun.

I suggest anyone with a wheel or a controller and a passion for cars and racing to check it out.

Here is a little review.
Race 07 (havent D/L race on and STCC the game yet)
Graphics, gets the job done, not pretty but not ugly. 7/10
Options.
Well you can adjust, seat postion foward/back and up/down as well as just about any setting on the cars. Weather is in the game, but I haven't ran in the rain yet.
Controls are completely changeable.
Auto
Manual with auto clutch
full manual.
You can kill the car if you stall it and have to start it back.
Realistic damage. (well good anyway)
Over all, options 9/10

Cars are completely yours to play with, fuel amount, tires caster/camber anything.

A.I does a good job of driving like a real driver.

Over all, with a controller I am having a blast, but a wheel would be amazing with this game. I want a G27 so bad now.

Since we don't have a car thread, I'll post this here and hope for the best. I'm looking into buying a car and have a question: How big of a deal are miles on a car? What are the rules of them with miles on a car?
