Dragon Quest VIII

Post » Wed May 04, 2011 3:07 am

I'm a big fan of the dragon quest series and viii is my favorite. I want this to become the definitive dragon quest viii thread so for everyone who has played the game please post any and all thoughts on the game.

I haven't played in years but once I'm done with dragon age origins I'm going to start a new dqviii file and really dig deep into the game.

Let's all post our fondest memories, how much time spent playing since it is a big game, any rare or unique experiences, and pretty much anything you want about the game! Long live dragon quest!

The game was a bit slow (ie the animations weren't fast enough and it felt like it took forever to do anything)

I didn't think it was all that great despite the fact that a lot of people seemed to like it. I preferred the original Dragon Warrior and Dragon Warrior II to VIII

I liked it enough to train my party up to level 99, and made a text file with all the final stats of the arena monsters (since they level with you and peak at various spots).

Nice! Everyone was at 99? How many hours did you clock in at?

DQ8 is a great game, one thing I really like is the relatively long epilogue of the game. Too many game ends just after you saved the world or whatever, but I want to see what happens to the characters next!

DQ9 was a disappointment for me though, as the party members have zero personality.

didn't really like it as it felt slower than the other games I play. Dq 7 seemed better just from the first few minutes I played

One of the hardest RPG's I've ever played. Beating it at Level 39 is probably my biggest accomplishment.

Can't remember and my PS2 isn't functional enough to check, but as I recall it wasn't as long as might be expected. Less than 100 hours, I know for sure. Hunting Metal King Slimes in the dragon graveyard got the job done.

It's my favourite too. I got so into the story. Did everyone do the secondary story after you finish the first time, were you meet the Dragonians and alter the ending?

I once circumnavigated the globe as well. So many sea dragons.
