[RELz] Side's Sailing Ships

Post » Wed May 04, 2011 3:37 pm

Oh no Ntom you have missed a lot.

Firstly, you probably know you can turn the borders off.

Now what you have missed is what are called http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1073491-wiprelz-under-the-sign-of-the-dragon-tamriel-heightmaps/ and the following http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1080432-under-the-sign-of-the-dragon-tamriel-landscapes/ (very small by comparison).

What Onra has done is created and landscaped (though not extravagantly) the other provinces. They have little civilization to them and no encounters but the land is there to be modded. The idea being that we have been waiting for mod teams to produce entire province mods and they have taken upwards of 4 years with little output. Well why do an entire province? The land is now available to mod and yes you can sail all the way from Anvil around Summerset Isles to Layawiin and into Blackmarsh.

The northern provinces are slated to be released next - I think after Onra releases another version of Fort Akatosh.

This is mostly a beta type thing as the ships are super cheap (last I used it), but having tried all sailing mods this is the best by far.

There are other provinces available Valenwwod Improved and Skyrim improved are out and even though they have towns and ports the landscape is not finished like it is with Heightmaps - you could be trucking along and fall into hole that you did not see because the modders have not even finished getting the LOD to render correctly.

Tamriel is now much bigger.

well it sounds really intresting...but, uh...there isn't many sailable locations. I mean, there is Anvil, and god forbid a huge boat be able to get to the water front, but there is that too...and I suppose Leyawin (if I spelled that right).
might I ask what else it does exactly? Like, sailing places and so forth?

It just adds ships that you can sail... really it doesn't need to do anything more. That's awesome enough as it is. However it is kinda intended to be used with something akin to Onra's Tamriel Heightmaps (speaking of which, WTB update, Onra! :P).

a lot has changed.

Onra's Heigth maps.....you can sail from The IC down past Bravil. continue on past Layawine into Topal Bay..With the NEW landmass you can sail Around Elswier AND valenwood past the Summerset Islands back up the Coast and find yourself in Anvil. Yes Around....lol

SOON we will have the Entire Continent!!!!!

As of now these are heigth maps with a few Mods populating. But as we know that will soon change.

OHHH ya and if you go the other way leaving and head east ...Blackmarsh is there!!!!

erm...okay so I download this height map mod and then i can sail everywhere? But it doesn't change the land really does it? because couldn't that cause a lot of conflicts with mods?
and if I do get this hight map, you should post a list of mods that add areas in the Tamriel World Space in which I can sail to (Summerset island?) because it would be rather pointless to sail to the ever so empty blackmarsh...whats there on my Oblivion file? Trees and rocks...not an enemy or NPC until Cyrodill.

anyways, fill me in, on this! I am willing to download tons of mods to make this ship sailing thing the best mod!

Well, barring Elsweyr, there still aren't enemies or NPCs... it's just the heightmaps. So, you can go explore, but there's really not much to DO. That's for other people to mod :) I know there's a team working on Arenthia, on Torval (maybe Senchal, not sure ), on Rimmen, on Gideon (I think)... and then, of course, there's the Elsweyr mod (which has been released in a very playable beta state).

Again the sailing mod is, I think, at beta in terms of playability. Buy a whole ship for a couple 100? Not that immersive, but it is about functionality.

I think the next fort Akatosh will be compatible with ports and I think Onra plans on adding ports to other provinces.

Heightmaps is not some gizmo that allows you to sail to places - it is the places. It doesn't change any land within the normal game boarders but finishes rendering and treeing and rocking the rest of the continent.
Granted the land is unpopulated and no monsters or dungeons, but the land is there to be used and modded.

There are barely any mods that go beyond the borders as it is now so no need for long list of conflicts. Heightmaps will conflict with other province adding mods though.

So this mod is developed in anticipation of that (as I feel pretty sure Side would say).

A forward thinking mod designed to best implement sailing in a game that did not even have working ships, not a complete immersive multi-layered quest mod that revamps the experience of Oblivion with 100s of new locations.

Yes Summerset Isle

This is Our World. http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/camaro_69_327/2010%20Oblivion/Arena-Map.jpg This is the Original Map from the First Ever in the Series. Only Played this a Little Bit.

In That map you will notice . First Top Left In the Iliac Bay is Daggerfall. The second Game in the Series. Loved and Played this Way to much.
On the Right Side Top you will See Morrowind. You guessed it Third In the series. We wont go into the time wasted playing This one...lol And in the Center We have Cyrodil The IC. Oblivion the Forth in the Series.

AND this is hopefully What we have in a Short While!!! http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee72/camaro_69_327/2010%20Oblivion/511948-1233008421.jpg

Without Mods Like this Giving us Ships None of this is Reasonable. The above map is about 60 % already in game. What is really needed is Moders to Grab a spot and give us something to sail to.....lol And yes this is being done. even Onra.(Maker of said heigth maps) has a mod for Outside Cyrodiil.

Thats easy one ...In the INI file in My Documents folder (not the Default one in the install directory) find this line "bBorderRegionsEnabled=1" I just searched Border was first thing to pop up. change from 0 to a 1 if it was 1 then you should be set. Have fun sailing I know i do!

Thanks for th ehelp - though, not long before reading this I remembered how to do it.
Sad news, is that I cannot use the Height Map due to the fact it requires SI, which I do not have, nor plan on investing in getting it. So, now, Sailing seems rather pointless(again) to me, since there is no mod that makes sailing else where seem worth it.

Si is the best DLC to get - better than all the rest. Bet you could find it for super cheap if you tried. Many great mods have it as a master.

Where I live you could get the GOTY edition for $20 or less. Considering I've played the game for over a year that is an incredible value.

Oh, I LOVE SI! and I think...some of the other additions are alright, but its frustrating to pay a little less than $10 just to get a house mod.
I don't know if you read in a previous post, but I did play the xbox version for a VERY long time...I played it fist (on the day of its release) at a friends house for a long time, then eventually I owned my own copy for a long time. I bought every expansion except Knights of the Nine via xBox Marketplace.

I might get SI eventually, but, Oblivion has always been a pain to me, causing problems and never working again - you know the whole story, so I don't know if spending $20 (or 10, or 13, or whatever) would be smart, considering I might get the chance to only use it once. (My PC version of Oblivion I got for free, btw)
