Deleting Oblivion from the register

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 3:35 pm

Since the nexus forums are down, I can't find another guide to fully clean install Oblivion. There was a step about deleting oblivion from the register. Could someone tell me what i should do there?

EDIT: New problem

Aww damn it, how is this possible... I've completely uninstalled everything that has anything to do with Oblivion now, and I've reinstalled it, but my game just crashes when I try to launch it. I haven't installed anything yet, but for some reason it crashes. Before this reinstall, I could play the game with tons of mods without it crashing to dekstop on launch, but now it does. Any help?

Edit the registry; find and delete the keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion - Construction Set
and everything under them, if they're present.

On 32-bit Windows, the program you want to run is called "regedit". Just type regedit in the Run box on XP or the Search box on Vista or W7.

It's more complicated on 64-bit Windows, because the 32-bit registry is a hidden registry that needs a special version of regedit to access it. The incantation is

%systemroot%\syswow64\regedit

As before, you type the command (exactly as given) into the Run box or Search box.

You can also use uninstaller software, for future reference ;)

Have you done anything strange to your system lately?

Maybe you installed some software thats running in the background and causing these crashes.

No don't think so, because I'm running other games just fine. Only Oblivion seems to crash.

Not sure if you've done this or not, but just to double-check, have you deleted your Oblivion.ini file from your documents/games/oblivion folder? If not, do so.
NOT the one in your Oblivion folder. Once the Oblivion.ini is deleted, load up the game using the normal launcher w/out any mods at all including any UI mods. Don't put them in yet.
Go through the launcher, start the game as normal, then exit.

Try that. Sometimes when you uninstall, the INI and saves do NOT. Good Luck, hope you get your issue fixed.

I feel pretty damn stupid  Deleting my Oblivion.ini solved the problem. Thanks a lot for helping me out there :P
