Fallouts on IPAD

Post » Thu May 12, 2011 11:55 pm

Hi, over at the Interplay forum i asked about the possibility of a port of Fallout 1/2 onto the IPAD, unfortunately they said they dont own the rights to games apart from the original platforms so they couldnt make a Ports. However they liked the idea and so suggested i come over here. Is that a possibility for the future considering the success of other old DOS / Classic pc games ported to the IOS

I second this. Wonder what will make Bethesda take it seriously (already sent them an email on the subject as well).

Heck, start off with FO1 and see how that goes before going ahead with FO2...

There's already excellent remakes of other classics such as the excellent Monkey Island 1 & 2:

http://itunes.apple.com/se/app/monkey-island-2-special-edition/id375901588?mt=8

And unlike those games, the graphics wouldn't even have to be updated that much.

I'm certain that even at as low a price as $3, Beth would make a lot of money from a Fallout 1 remake, but I for one would easily pay $10 for a GOOD port.

By all means, port them to Android as well, but an iOS iPad specific port would look and play incredibly well.

Well, as long as it is'nt remade into the new fallout graphics.

It could be done, but it would be really hard to port things to it I believe.

EDIT: Android? The screen is waaaaay to small, I own one. :|

@Boradam

Agreed. As I wrote, I doubt the graphics would have to be upgraded much, if at all. As for porting it, I'll admit I don't have a clue but people I know who make apps say it is fairly easy and given how many ports we're already seeing I'm betting it wouldn't be all that difficult.

Android's a platform, expect devices with larger screens in the near future.

@FalloutBob

This is where I expect it would get tricky... NDS and PSP are both platforms designed for different games, whereas the touch screen control of iPad / Android would lend itself well to emulating mouse only control. Could probably be done for the NDS but it would be up against the likes of Zelda and Mario and I honestly don't thibk there's a business case to be made there. Fallout on the iPad OTOH would be both good from a business perspective and as a marketing tool, spreading the franchise to more potential users ($5 is an ok risk for a game, $50 not so much).

How would you handle all the controls on an iPad, or an iPhone?

They could make a completely new Fallout game specifically designed for touchscreens like Bioware did with Mass Effect Galaxy. Except, hopefully it won't svck like Mass Effect Galaxy did.

Bethesda did some Elder Scrolls Travel cell phone games, but they were never available on cell phones I owned. I've wondered if they shouldn't develop an engine that would allow them to release multiple Fallout/TES games on phones and tablets in the future.

TBH it's been five or six years since I played the original, but IIRC almost everything was immediately accessible through the cursor? Not always the best means of control but at least possible. Anything that can't be done through a cursor (= touch), they could add a row of icons for.

I've seen this thread and I just thought you were wanting to have a new fallout made for iPad but now that I read it it seems like an awsome Idea to have the originals on the iPad because it would help fallout fans who haven't played them to be able to play 1 and 2 in a more mainstream way. If that makes sence

I say they should do the originals on the iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, and Droid...but they should make a different one if they had it on the PSP or NDS

I think Touch / Iphone screens would be too small TBH. You'd have to add scrolling etc which would make the game very hard to play.

But the good news is I watched a few FO clips fullscreen on my iPad and they look quite decent. Would certainly work. With polished graphics, I'd pay $10 each for FO and FO2... Are you listening, Bethesda? ;-)

(I'd still pay $5 each with the original graphics, mind.)
