Have birthsigns been mentioned at all on any Bethesda employee twitter, or in media? I really want them in!

I would reckon them to be in, it would be the most logical thing.

Though, I haven't read anything official about it myself.

I assume they are in because
Spoiler
in the gameinformer article it talks and shows a picture of the skill "menu" which are constellations and the more skills you have the more stars show up in the constellation

I think they are in. If you are familiar with the birth signs and what they are doing with the new UI, it makes perfect sense to put them in.

They have been in every TES since arena, I doubt they'll be gone.

Hasn't somebody posted that there'll be a star constellation associated with each skill? And the stars of the constellation are supposed to be the perks? :spotted owl:

I'm pretty sure they've only been with the series since Morrowind - at least as a character creation mechanic. Birthsigns were introduced in Morrowind to replace the class special advantages and disadvantages that were in Daggerfall. The Daggerfall system allowed for incredible customization options but it was very easy to exploit - the birthsign system drastically reduced the customization options but it make sure nothing was terribly unbalanced. The latter was carried over into Oblivion and I'd be surprised if it wasn't being used in Skyrim - but as others have said it hasn't been confirmed either.

Edit: If I'm going to be ninjaed by someone at least it was Shades :)

you're mostly right. The birthsigns were in dagger fall and arena though. You would get asked a series of questions in character
creation, each with three answers depending on the answers you gave you would either be under the sign of the thief, the mage, or the warrior.

I doubt that they'll be in. The devs don't want you to decide how you'll play before you've actually played it. I think most of the effects will be merged with perks.

Having recently played Daggerfall for the first time (Where there are no Birthsigns) it really shows you can't decide which character to play until you've played a fair way into the game. I'm on my third character and am still making big character creation mistakes.

It's the same with Morrowind, it took me two chacters to settle on a play-style that I liked based on the game world available.
Oblivion was a little easier, since every character could do well (especially if you only levelled up skills, and not attributes and dominated the levelled enemies).

Well they could make them unrelated to skills or attributes(if attributes are even in) to avoid it causing too much of a problem. Birthsigns were pretty important to the character in the last two games Imo. Like in the Nereavarine prophecies which turned out to be about the player character in Morrowind.

The birthsigns were certainly part of the Elder Scrolls universe but I'm pretty sure Simonatron was referring to the birthsign mechanic found in TES III and TES IV which gave you a special ability or boost. If Simonatron was referring to the signs themselves and not the character creation mechanic . . . . well it would be odd for Bethesda to discuss the details of stellar cartography at this point. :)

But that didn't have any actual in game effect did it? As in, you answered questions and it just showed you which archetypal answer you had chosen. You never got a bonus for answering a bunch of questions with the "thief" answer.

Edit* This is a ninja thread! :toughninja: :P
