Major Install Issues

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 1:23 pm

Every time I try to install the DLC over the official game it gets an error when installing "ThePitt - Main.bsa" and deletes essential game files from the Fallout 3 directory such as Fallout3.exe and Fallout_launcher.exe (maybe others, not sure yet). I do not know why this is happening and could never even guess why.

Error Details:
Spoiler
Feature: DefaultFeature
Component: Plugin
File: D:\EN_Fallout_3_DLC.EXE
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Can anyone help? This has happened before and it fixed itself (don't ask how). ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!

I read on other forums that the disc may be scratched/damaged. It is slightly scratched. Could that be the problem or is it something else? And if I bought this as GOTY at BestBuy could I exchange it there or would I have to call Bethesda support and have them ship out a new copy for $30?

CRC errors on any software generally indicate a damaged or corrupted file, so yes, the scratch on the disc is most likely your problem. It's certainly worth a trip to Best Buy to find out if you can exchange it. They should exchange the disc as it's defective, but with software you just never know until you ask.

If I take it there would I need to wait for them to install Fallout 3 and the DLC through my discs so they can be sure they're defective or should they just give me a new copy in exchange for the defective one?

I honestly don't know - I've never had to return software to Best Buy, so I don't know how {censored]-ish they get about it.

They've never given me problems with returning other items, though.

I took it back there, they didn't help. But they did say Gamestop had a disc buffer service, (which BestBuy also had in-stock for $45) then Gamestop said they didn't have any and to check BestBuy. Then finally they recommended a place called Game Palace (mom and pop shop) for disc buffer service. So I'll try them tomorrow and hope they don't [censored] up the disc even more...

If they do, can I download the DLC setup.exe file anywhere legally or will it be impossible for me to download it without buying another copy?

Before I went to do that, I asked my dad (car guy) if he had anything to get scratches out, and he did! Two Meguiar's products: PlastX (to get major scratches out) then go over it again with Show Car Glaze (for smaller scratches, trust me, it won't ruin the disc) and it's almost good as new and runs perfect! So if you don't want to pay someone to clean it for you, ask one of your car-obsessed friends if they have those two products!
