Slowdown after 30 - 45 min play

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:26 pm

Just wondering if anyone else has seen the game slow down after playing for a while.

I notice that there is a lot of disk activity when this is happening. The symptom is that the display will freeze for a while and slowly begin displaying frames until it becomes marginally playable. Then after a bit it will do the same thing.

If anyone has seen this, have you found a solution?

TIA!

My system specs are Win 7 x64 core i5 4GB RAM, GTX 460

Is your computer kicking on a virus scan or some other disk intensive scheduled task in teh middle of you playing?

Have you defragmented the hard drive?

I actually solved the problem. It was not a virus scan or defrag kicking in.

I had loaded the NMC texture pack and that was the cause of the disk thrashing. Once I disabled it, everything is playing smoothly.

It seems odd to me that a texture pack would cause extreme disk thrashing even when NOT switching areas. All I was doing was looking around.

BTW, I figured it out because for some reason it was slow immediately after starting the game the other day and that got me to thinking.
