Servers or hosts?

Will Brink's online be supported by servers or be hosted by a person in the game (this question applies to consoles, PCs probably do)? I only ask because games on consoles have [censored] online without servers.

Lag actually differs greatly from game to game. The CoD series has pretty terrible netcode, so the lag there is terrible as well. It is much less noticeable in, say, Halo Reach, for example. (Haven't played too many online shooters recently...)

So hopefully SD is coding Brink really, really well so that even without dedicated servers we won't have people warping around or shooting us through walls and around corners.

Yea. Left for Dead 2 and Far Cry 2. And I think TF2 but I am not certain.

With dedicated servers, how the hack can I play the campaing in multiplayer? After every match the game will put me on another server, or dedicated servers are just for playing the maps in a non-linear rotation, and if you want to play the campaing against players you have to join a host?

Absolutely. All Battlefield games: Bad Company, 1943, and Bad Company 2. Battlefield 3 will as well.

If I'm not mistaken, Campaign-play will base on matchmaking, wether you are on console or PC.

Dedicated servers- everyone in a match is connected to a central server
Host- one of the players in the match is where everyone is connected and if they have crap internet, they have no lag and everyone else has lag. And in some games (Like gears of war) it can give them a huge advantage......

Ah, I remember that from Gears. I wonder why they are doing that to consoles while PC gets dedicated.

IDK, but it makes multiplayer terrible.

They do it because hosting servers can be expensive. Especially when you have to have enough for several thousand people. Don't quote me on that though.

Typically, PC users host their own; I don't know why consoles can't do the same.

Because consoles use different software, I guess.

Anyhoo, Dedis are the PCs last bastion. If it falls, games will probably become console-exclusive at all. :violin:

svcks for me, on 360. Hope its not as bad as Black Ops. Some games have to be stopped twice just to search for a new host because the previous ones have left. It's incredibly annoying and basically makes you want to stop playing immediately.
