A video of the least I expect

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 3:34 pm

I found a video from a cancelled game title "Project Offset," in this video it depicts what the dragons would have been like in that game. In my opinion, this is the least I expect from Skyrim's dragons.

And was that game supposed to load huge amounts of information at once or was it supposed to have a fake background, and was that in game or just a teaser video for a game that got canceled. And was that animation for the dragon made only for that scene or was the dragon designed to change postured based on the environment ?

You can′t expect something in Skyrim from a game that by the looks of it was supposed to be a lot different and from a game that was canceled.

My god, that game was something. There were many videos of it, but the company was acquired by Intel and canceled so no more Offsetting for all of us. Yes, it was amazing and it reminds me of Dark Messiah, another amazing game i am playing right now btw and from which Bethesda has fortunately drawn quite a bit of mechanics! Arkane being a part of Zenimax has surely had it's good influence! I'm so cheery about that!

Apparently you won't have to worry and combat will be definitely good this time.

That was gameplay. I know it's a completely different kind of game, but if you saw the other videos for this cancelled project, you'd get an idea of how potentially epic it would have been.

Dumb looking? Wow, how old are you? I thought that the animations used on the dragon and the whole model was exceptionally well done. I would definitely expect Skyrim's dragons to behave like this, perhaps even better.

My thoughts exactly. Let alone that the dragon itself is "dumb looking" It's what it took to make a dragon like that that amazes me.

The ones in Skyrim probably will look cooler, but in my honest opinion, not as visually appealing as the dragons from Project Offset. I hope I am proven wrong.

Yeah, this game was announced in 2006 and it got SO much attention. It was insane. They were picked up by Intel and after years of development they were fired, and Intel didn't give them back the rights to their engine. THREE guys made this engine.

http://fractiv.com/ scroll down for the info on Project: Offset.

OT: Yes, this dragon looks awesome. It'd be pretty epic if Skyrim's dragons looked like, or better, than this.

word.

I came across project offset years ago. I wanted to apply for some art position on the project. At the time I was still learning basics though. And now that it was broken up and is gone, I was a little sad to hear about it being canned.

All I have heard about the dragons is this:

"Perhaps the most impressive use of the Behavior technology is how Bethesda is using it to create the dragon animations. Bethesda has worked meticulously to make sure the beasts look powerful and menacing when banking, flapping their wings, gaining altitude before making another strafing run, and breathing fire on their hapless victims. None of the dragons' actions are scripted, and Behavior helps make the movements look non-mechanical, even when the dragons are speaking/shouting."

I'm a dragon nut, and I think that dragon was poorly designed. That is to say not modeled badly, just not a very interesting design.

And if I remember I believe Project Offset was initially designed--well at least once Intel bought them--to push their technology. Which means the average PC would choke and die trying to play that. heh.

I can't see Skyrim's dragons being overly sophisticated, but who knows. I hope you guys are right. I would kill to see some dragons that really know how to move around the environment. And I want to see decent flight animations, not just wings flapping up and down. The wings should never just flap up and down. There is a very specific way wings move in flight. Well varies from animal to animal, but you know what I mean.

Cheers
