Help needed:H.P lovecraft references/reference in Fallout 3?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:29 pm

I was wondering if anyone can help me. I was reading about the American author H.P Lovecraft. I read there are references/ there is a reference to his work in Fallout 3. I read this on wikipedia page so I’ve taken it with a pinch of salt, can anyone tell me if it’s true or not and if so what are the references/ what is the reference?

the Point Lookout DLC has a very Lovecraftian quest. There's an old manor with an old man in a wheelchair who doesn't show up on your compass at all. He wants you to get an ancient tome for him from another location. In the end, if you give it to him, he suddenly can get up from hiw wheelchair, walk into the basemant, and does some strange ritualistic things down there.

The quest's name is "The Dark Heart of Blackhall", and here is a link to it's page on the Fallout wiki: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/The_Dark_Heart_of_Blackhall

The Dunwich Building in Fallout 3 (Dunwich being named after a story of his actually, "The Dunwich Horror") also has some Lovecrat References. The whole place is haunted basically and there is a backstory concering a "mysterious book", check it out (but be ready to get freaked out).

The main reason it was really freaky to me was that I went through it at night......midnight exactly

on halloween

and I had no idea what it was.......or what I was in for..... :bolt:

To this day. That has been the only halloween that I have been generally freaked the hell out by something...

bethesda games are filled with nods to Lovecraft's lore - the treatment of necromancy and Gods in the elder scrolls is very Lovecraftian. and people have already pointed out the direct references, i think its safe to say the people at gamesas are certified Cthulhu fanatics!

Well, they did publish Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It's a pity they don't do a Lovecraft RPG ...
