Arrrrrrrg games

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 8:43 pm

Hey, just started watching the anime "one piece" and now I'm kinda looking for a game along those same lines. By that I mean a game where you recruit a crew, go on missions, etc. Kinda like oblivion but with the focus more on pirates or a game like the masterpeice that was "Skies of Arcadia."

Hope that all makes sense. I looked through steam and ign.com but didn't really see anything that perked my interest or was what I was really looking for. Just wondering if any of you know of any games that are out or that are in development along those lines. Thanks!

btw: I do own Sid's Pirates, so not that one. Played the heck out of it, looking for something new.

Maybe Mount & Blade: Warband?

No pirates, but there's probably pirate mods.

Is that about pirates?

Edit: ah, just saw you edit...I'll look into it, but I kinda wanted the main focus of the game be on pirates.

You might like Rogue Galaxy then, which is basically One Piece mixed with Star Wars.
As for pirate games other than the Sid Meier one... I enjoyed Legend of Black Kat, though that might have to do with being able to play a swashbuckling redhead.

"Sid Meier's Pirates!"? If you just need the atmosphere, Monkey Island may also work - the recent remakes are quite nice.

Looked up Rogue Galaxy, looks like what I am looking for, however, is it really only on PS2 cause I only have an xbox360 and a PC.
I do remember the Legend of Black Kat, played it a while back, I might look for a used copy. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Mass effect 2
70% recruiting and dealing with baggage, 10% main missions 20% side quests...

Needs to be more pirate games though. I hope rockstar do one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Dogs_(video_game)

It's an excellent pirate/sailor RPG published by Bethesda in 2000. (Not to be confused with the crap that was the Pirates of Carribean game also published by Bethesda)

You can choose to serve for Spain, England and French or to become a pirate.
You can make a living by attacking trade routes and capturing the ships' cargo or the ships themselves, hire your crew, get yourself an armada of ships, or you can simply be a merchant and trade items back and forth from colonies.

I had a great time with it and the sea battles are pretty cool. Even for a 2000 game. :P

Yes, but it also has a lot of flow into a vacuum.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2SJUF7HBRY for the PS2. While it's generally seen as the worst game in the main series, it's still a decent game and include a lot of recruiting and some pirates.

I'm a huge fan of the Suikoden series, but I consider I, II and V to be the best ^_^

Tales of Vesperia for the 360. It is only 18 bucks on amazon. You even form a "crew" called a "guild".

Yup, I got ME2 for my 360, the only problem is the fact that the text of the game is so small that my 36" tube tv makes it unreadable...very sad... I do plan to pick the game up again once I get a better TV in the near future though.

@Kaitou Kid: Yup, that certainly is a very top notch game, I've played Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia to death though, so agin looking for somthing new.

@Max: Never thought of Monkey Island, how is the gamplay is it hack and slash, rpg, sidescrolling or what? Might be a good possibility though, thanks!

And I totally agree that there is a noticable lack of games with pirates in them....I think beth should fix this or let another company with their engine take care of it.

Monkey Island is a series of humorous point-and-click adventure games in which you play Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate. They're the pinnacle of the old adventure games, along with Grim Fandango.
