Hi folks,

Just a little question about the patches. I've only just got into playing FO3 (due to only recently getting a computer able to play it) and am still a lil unsure about the various patches. I know the latest official patch is v1.7 and that there's also an unofficial patch. I thought I had to use one or the other, and that some mods needed a particular patch in order to run. But after doing a search I found that the v1.7 official patch does indeed seem to be the desired patch I need.

However then I found Arwen's FO3 site and she states that I need to install both the official v1.7 patch and the unofficial FO3 patch. Is this indeed correct? I assume it is but just wanted to get confirmation before I accidently screw something up. Also, I presume I install the official patch first and then the unofficial after that yeah?

I also read that these patches (both?) need to be installed before I install any of the DLC's. Is this also the way I should be doing it? Not sure if it makes any difference but I also have the GOTY version of FO3.

no you don't need both, the unofficial patch is optional, i've run mods(several) just fine without it :icecream:

IMO, there really is none, my game is alot more stable without it

Wait. From what I understand, you should always get the official patch. The Unofficial patches are built upon the officially patched games. It is a good idea to fully patch your game. Bad things may happen if you try to use the unofficial patch without the official one. Or bad things may not. Why take the risk?

Yeah I intend to patch with the official v1.7 patch first. I'm still umming and ahhing over the unofficial one. Main thing I wanted to confirm now is that I do in fact patch first (after FO3 install) "before" installing DLC's?

I wouldn't worry about that. I would, but I don't think it'll matter.

I have used the unofficial patch before without any problems. However I stopped using it some time ago for which reason I can't remember.

The biggest thing I am aware of now with the unofficial patch is in regards to Fellout. I saw in a thread some time ago that stated there was some sort of conflict between it, broken steel, and the unofficial patch at project purity. I believe Fellout was the loser in that conflict. Not sure if that has been fixed yet or if it can be done.

the conflict that i remember with quarn's unofficial fallout 3 patch is that u can't enter the sewers in pen ave. to get to the presidential metro and get to adams A.F. base. I ended up locked inside a car and couldn't get out, not even using TLC.
but someone created a patch that fixed the problem. UF3P [BS anomaly].esp

I was able to play the sewers just fine without the fix, but it might cause problems.

I would install 1.7, but the unofficial patch is purely optional.
The stuff it fixes is mostly pretty minor and I guess most people wouldn't notice much differences.
Still, I've been using it for months now and had no problems with it.
Unfortunately Quarn seems to have vanished from FO3 modding and there are no updates anymore.

Hey Salty, you're not really understanding my patching recommendations. Just because I have the Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch in my mod list does not mean that you need to install both. You should always install the latest official patch, and I think I mad that pretty clear. But I actually wrote in the bottom of my Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch section:
