New Vegas....Post Apocalyptic adventure....or third world co

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:53 am

When it comes down to it, the land of New Vegas is not what i would call a post apocalyptic society. Sure...its after the "Apocalpyse" which makes it techniclly a post apocalyptic world. But, New vegas has a currency system, a economy, the NCR number in the tens of thousands and have peaceful cities. New Vegas reminds me more of a third world country in civil war, comparable to Africa or the middle east. When walking down Freeside, i realized......this game is closer to reality then fiction.

Areas like New vegas....already exist. DUH DUH DUMMM!!!!

What do you think?

FO1, FO2 also has a currency system, a economy, rebuilding/farming and many locations already exist :shocking:

Whats's your point OP? FO1 takes place 84 years after great war. FO2 takes place 164 years after and also has NCR. FO3 takes place 200 years and Washington, DC is a real place as well

From a development perspective, I think New Vegas is the one that stays true to the series while Fallout 3 goes against the grain, at least in this aspect of it. The world of Fallout 1 was of a working, functioning, developing society that only continued to improve in Fallout 2. Fallout 3 is the one where it still looks like the war just happened 200 years after the fact.

In lore terms, the New California Republic has created a functioning society of a large number of people (perhaps millions) on the West Coast while the East Coast lacks any kind of unifying civilizing force and is essentially in a state of anarchy.

I think that it has been repaired a bit so saying about some people being civilized is not backing you up. Duh after something like this with the vaults there will be somewhat civilized society eventually. So I think some of it could be compared but not the downed electricity lines and the big roads on steps (what are they called?) all being destroyed is probably not a third world country. It would not be in THAT bad of repair i mean both sides need electricity and ways to travel. The U.S. civil war we were not like that right? The other nations at that time all thought us to be a wast land of everything but resources. So that is just my position on all of this.

Well the civil war was back wgen people only used guns that fired one shot, and there was no robots or nuclear holocaust so i doubt that's comparable

The apocalypse is long over, it's been 200 years since the war. It's a shame that games from the late '90s can get that concept better than Fallout 3. Fallout has always been about the world rebuilding itself after complete devastation, and not a "post-nuclear simulator" like this forum proclaims it is.

A third world country? I thought USA was a third world country in Fallout. In fact, I think every country in the world is kinda "third world" right now.

So what we've got: Everyone carry weapons? Check. Poverty? Check. Food and clean water shortage? Check. Different factions fighting over a region that belongs to neither of them because of resources and ideological differences? Check. People's homes has been bombed out? Check.

Does that sound like a third world country? Yeah. Did other Fallout games have this aswell? Yeah.

Something wrong with it? Nah.

The map feels a little too packed but apart from that it seems pretty post-apocalyptic to me.

You do not need radiated water, no countries, and a green tint for something to be called Post-Apocalyptic.

Fallout was never designed to be a "Post-Nuclear Simulation." It was meant to be about the world rebuilding after the nuking. I have played FO1 recently for the first time, and it feels MUCH more post-apocalyptic than FO3 is.

Fallout 3 only have one thing about Fallout, and its the name,

Hope not, the real Wasteland 2 is rumored to be in the works at InXile.

NV in particular isn't a supposed to be a post-apocolpytic game, its supposed to be a post-post apocolyptic game. What happened after that which happened after the bombs went off.

I don't get you? This game has all the components needed to be a Post Apocalyptic game. Society has still not been rebuilt, but it's progressing. I mean what do you expect? It's been over 200 years since the Great War, things aren't going to be the same.
