OBSE & Windows 7

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:23 pm

Hi there,

I am hoping some kind soul can point me in the right direction. I have run OBSE v 17b a few times in the past without any problem. Now however I have tried to run it on my shiny Windows 7 64 bit computer. The screen blanks out (as is normal when running the loader) and then it disappears and I am staring at the desktop. I have triple checked the install instructions and everything seems fine. Does OBSE not work with windows 7?

Does the game run without OBSE? I don't have any issues with either the game nor the CS running OBSE, in fact it's more stable by far than it's ever been before.

Possible I got lucky with this, but Oblivion itself and OBSE both worked fine after I got Win7 installed and running. DX9 isn't even installed as far as I know either, I certainly didn't do so myself anyway.

I am running OBSE v18 beta on Win 64 without any problems - did not do anything specific to get it working. MIght be worth running it from Command Window so you can see what the error is - I am assuming there will be one.

OBSE and Windows7 don't have any issues.

OBSE might have issues with the UAC in extreme cases, or an anti-virus might interfere because the loader loads another exe file.

Any Chance your Installed to the Default Directory? IF your install is in "Program Files" the Default path many things can and Will go wrong.

Most Say to Install to this Directory.......C:\Games\Bethesda Softworks

But any Directory Outside of the "Program Files" folder is Good.

Hope this helps.

Actually it turns out it had nothing to do with OBSE - I assumed Oblivion would work because I got to the launch screen, but it doesn't

Turns out its my video card - I have a Radeon 5870, and other people are reporting the same issue.

One way I got it to launch is to bring up the launch menu, hit the data files, deselect everything, then reselect everything.

From that point on it launched - weird. Not sure how stable it will be though.

Thanks for all the replies

Not true its does ship with windows 7, just an old version, just like Vista, you just have to update the package.

So either way, Windows 7 users have to install DX9.0c, right?

Are you sure they were all selected in the first place? It really sounds like you had a plugin-without-a-master crash.

Well maybe and maybe not, just run dxdiag and find out. What's wierd is, I got an i7 with dx 11 but it wouldn't run unless I "installed dx9". I got that advice from Arthmoor and it worked. :hubbahubba:

The latest versions do not necessarily include the 9.0c DLLs. I was kind of asking a rhetorical question...

I am kinda curious about a couple settings I see in folks with vista/win7's dxdiag. the dx9 overlays supported ones to be precise. Can folks that have the game working run a quick dxdiag, and see if those are both shown as "enabled"? Should be on the display tab.

I'm running DirectX11 on Win 64 Ultimate - not quite sure which overlays you are talking about, but in the DxDiag.txt it says "D3D9 Overlay: Not Supported" - is this what you were looking for?
