Merge Morrowind Patch Project with Morrowind.esm

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:19 am

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have ever tried to merge the Morrowind.esm with other esm files, specifically, the Morrowind Patch Project esm. I figured it would be a lot less duplicate data that would have to load since the game first loads Morrowind.esm and then the same (modified) obects of the Patch Project. Now doing it should not be that hard but I wonder if it can be safely done and if it is worth it.

That's impossible to merge a master with another master. No, you can't do that but you can merge an esp into an esm.

I don't know much about modding, but I do know that you need a tool a convert an esm to an esp and than merge the esp into an esm. Besides I think you have missed the whole point about the MMP and the main reason why it was started it in the first place. It's suppose to correct things in the game. :)

I think they realize that, but were thinking that they could merge the fixes in and then have room for more mods...but to be honest, I've never tried, and would be afraid of something breaking(not that it would be hard to just have a backup made of the original) but still, I just don't want to waste the time in case it wouldn't work as intended....:P

you have to first merge tribunal with morrowind, then bloodmoon with the resulting masterfile, and then the patch project with that resulting file. it's not as bad as it seems, but there's not really that much to gain from the process either. some conflict issues, but even then it's fairly minor to correct.

What's the best way to merge esm's/esp's?

Wouldn't that cause all sorts of trouble with other mods that are depending on the expansion ESMs?

And what about the dependance with the official BSA's names?

In theory wouldn't it be better to just merge it with Bloodmoon since it loads last? But what if there are any mods dependent on MPP, they wouldn't be able to "see" the master file.

I don't see the potential (very small) gain outweighing the problems that could arise or even just being worth the effort.

One more thing to consider is that although all the official patches are out, any updates to MPP would require a re-merge. This happens to be the number one reason I don't merge mods, because it makes for a heckuva mess when I want to update one.
