TLM Lightning mod questions

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:32 am

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has a link with screenshots of what this mod do? I am currently really happy with the way my mge game looks using Hdrbloom, sunshaft, ssao and a contrast shader to make interiors darker. On the other hand, there is always room for improvement. Anybody would recommend using the TLM mod?

Thank you,

I would highly recommend it. If you don't like the sneak based lighting stuff, then there's a modular version as well. The ambient and lighting fix is essential IMO.

Stuporstar - their are also INI tweaks recommended by the mod creator - do you recommend or use as well?

I use the dark sky settings from SWG's sky mod, which are quite similar to the TLM .ini tweaks as far as I can tell. It works very nicely, and it's contained in a handy .mit file that I add or reverse easily with the MorrowINI.exe. It also looks really good.

Also, I should mention that that screenshot is an interior shot. I have underground housepods in UL. That's demonstrating the interior ambient tweaks plus lighting enhancements.

I would never ever ever play without TLM. I use modular so I can avoid the light based sneaking stuff, since I think it breaks sneaking a little and definitely messes up heavy armor characters :<

it is not compatible with the lantern replacer, isn't it? even if this replacer does not change names or lightning?

does someone has experienced something about this issue?

They are compatible. The lantern is just a replacer of mesh/texture.

I use it and Illuminated Windows (which does more than just windows) just fine.
Unless TLM does something I dont know about...

The only thing I ever noticed that I don't like about TLM, it removes to gross green gas in the Corprusarium! I love that gross green gas! ;^)

Seriously though, TLM is one of my favorite mods. Wouldn't play without it. :^)

I'm also using TLM, with the following lighting settings:

[LightAttenuation]UseConstant=0ConstantValue=http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1109753-tlm-lightning-mod-questions/0.0;UseLinear=0LinearMethod=1LinearValue=3.0LinearRadiusMult=1.0;UseQuadratic=1QuadraticMethod=2QuadraticValue=12.5QuadraticRadiusMult=1.4;OutQuadInLin=0

It's kinda difficult to provide good example screenshots. I've always loved http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/57416-1272648530.jpg http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/57416-1268822630.jpg, no idea how much TLM influenced them though.

Could you list the mods you're using, aside from TLM? It looks like you've got the Morrowind Graphics Extender going, but I can't tell what else.

I personally prefer Lights_300 because it also makes interiors darker, but edits the light sources as well to be more saturated/colorful (the author's example of Ra'Virr's house is probably the best one). I'll post screens from that mod, if you're interested :)

Classic stuff:
Visual XT+addons
Connary's textures
Darknut's armor+creatures textures
Vality7's tree+grass mods
Vurt's tree+grass retextures mods
Windows Glow 2x2
Changing Faces Replacer+addon

And a whole lot more stuff I found on PES(MCA, better music system, better clothes, a ton more I couldn't find the time to install, quality stuff.).

I mix and match. Sometimes I only pick one texture from a whole mod. That picky I am. And yes I use MGE too. That should be obvious. :)

PS. I recommend changing the lighting, ambient, fog and sky colors inside the Morrowind.ini. If you get Vurt's sky mod that should provide ini tweaks which I think are essential. (Tweaking is. As long as you tweak them, I use my own values for example.).

Hmmm. I got Interesting result using those. I am not sure if I liked them better than the tlm ones but they are interesting nevertheless. How did you come up with those?

I always get best results when using both Quadratic and Linear. Sounds weird, but Linear is set very low and many people have been doing it for years.
I don't use TLM, but I do use IW, which basically does the same thing.
[LightAttenuation]UseConstant=0ConstantValue=http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1109753-tlm-lightning-mod-questions/0.0;UseLinear=1LinearMethod=1LinearValue=0.1LinearRadiusMult=0.618;UseQuadratic=1QuadraticMethod=2QuadraticValue=4.0QuadraticRadiusMult=2.0;OutQuadInLin=0

edit: also, I agree fully:

I was really a fan of those ini tweaks but for some reason the suns reflection in the water became light blue, which I didn't like.

Anyway TLM looks cool, but I think Illuminated Windows is enough lighting for me for now.

This happens because his color settings for the sun have a higher "blue" value than red or green, its easily fixable in the .ini file, just find the sun color under each of the weather types, and lower the 3rd number in sequence.

Example would be 220,230,255

Change it to 255,230,200 and you should have a more orangish reflection, or you could go 225,255,210 and get a more yellowish reflection, the colors are red, green, blue or RGB for short, its pretty easy to use a program like Paintbrush to get an idea of what pallette settings will look like in game, just remember that the colors have a range from 0-255, so don't put anything over 255 down, also, the higher the number, the brighter and more vibrant it will be, which is why the sun color settings are so high(the sun should look near white at the center of the mass).

So I have been playing with tlm and I enjoy it a lot. Makes a huge atmosphere difference. I want to install LCV and I read that it modifiies cell lightning at night. Will it be compatible with TLM? Is it worth the hassle?

Thanks

A lot of what I've seen can be done by turning the game's gamma slider down and increasing the radius multiplier, especially when using quadratic lighting.

Anyone ever open TLM up with the editor to see what he actually did?

No idea, I got them somewhere a long time ago and always saved them but I don't know where I originally got it from. And I may have changed it a little bit too.

well they are not. i use the modular version and the lanterns convert back. but i want to play with tlm as well because i like the darker caves and everything. is the whole setting reversed if i load the mods in that way (i use the ini-tweaks given by the .mit)? here is the important part of my load order:

246 TLM - Light Sources (Lanterns).esp
247 TLM - Light Sources (Clearer Lighting).esp
249 TLM - External Lights Ownership.esp
250 TLM - NPC Light Sources.esp
251 Laternen-Replacer_DV.esp ... (which is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=3149)
252 TLM - Ambient Light + Fog Update.esp
253 Mashed Lists.esp

mlox does not say anything about it (which may be because i have a hell of german mods in use, unknown to mlox).
