Door Targeting Issue

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 4:04 pm

I did the basic tutorial and think I have that stuff down pretty well. I do have an issue, though. I used a different door (the EncDoorBg01, the large enclave door) for the external, in wasteland door. It teleports me properly, but clicking it is a pain in the butt. I have to get at some really weird angle to get it to show the 'E' dialog to activate it and teleport. It's acting like a bounding box / collision issue, maybe due to the frame I put around it. Any recommendations as to how to get the door to behave properly?

It sounds like you have two doors in the same place. Try moving your door slightly to check if there's another one "underneath" it.

Nope, just one door. I also tried removing the frame I have around it to make sure that's not the problem, and I rotated the door 180 to see if the other side behaved any better... no dice. I notice I can activate it with 'E' off to the side of it a bit. so it's acting like it's collision map is set to something very different than the geometry of the door

I thought I should mention that the other side of the teleport, the same door works fine for getting back out to the wasteland

Hmm... I think there's something odd with the door. I removed one from the interior because I was getting a freeze when I approached it, then put it in again (thinking there may be something odd with a script)... and I get this error:

NiControllerSequence::StoreTargets 'Open'failed to find target
m_pcAVObjectName EcvDoorBg01
m_pcCtlrType NiTransformController
m_pcPropertyType (null)

That's a common error that has no real effect. Most likely the door is partially inside the geometry of some other tile. You can press the F4 key in the Geck to toggle the collision geometry to see if this is the case. You can also move your door into the middle of a room for testing to see if you can click on it in game - just to be sure. Then readjust it so it geometry is not in conflict with anything else.

thanks, that did the trick, shuffled a few things around, found the culprit collision geometry and got it sorted out.
