It's just you and me now Gurkog. No matter which of us wins, the upcoming battle will be glorious.

Hey!! Jane was the first one to kill him. Sure, she died too, but he did die!!!

Jane was the first to knock him out. Lord Kacj was the first to actually defeat him in a fight.

Who created Crazy Jim again? I am writing a fan fic about the Mede Dynasty's attempt to subjugate High Rock after the events of Oblivion and the ES novels, and I was going to use him as a badass character fighting for the Bretons - kind of like Chuck Norris and Lu Bu combined into one. I have some crazy and hilarious scenarios written up for him already. I promise I'll do him justice if I can use him.

edit: Which gives me an idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfEMbK6qnvQ will be his theme music instead.

THE FINAL TRIAL

Nine of the ten avengers had already walked into the arena and tried to kill Crazy Jim. Each and everyone of them lay dead, felled by the Butcher's unholy blade. The last remaining avenger was Gurkog Gorz-bak the Orc Stonemauler. He had watched his comrades fall one by one, but he did not falter. He knew that if he did not stop Crazy Jim then nobody ever would and this knowledge steeled his nerves and and made him resolute.

That's actually Jim's secret. His attack is nothing special, it's merely good. But his defenses are extremely powerful. He actually wins his matches by simply staying alive while he steadily chips away at his opponent's health. He also doesn't have any real weaknesses. If you want to beat him you have to do what he does, only better.

Gurkog does what Jim does, only better.

It will be interesting to see Gurkog will become the new Crazy Jim, or if Gurkog just happened to be the paper to Crazy Jim's rock.

No rematches.

I think it would be best if Gurkog rode into the proverbial sunset and was never seen again. It would make for the best story of the first generation of tournaments.

Another thing is that this was the last "vanilla" tournament I'm hosting. The next tournament I host will already use the balance changes and I will rewrite the rules. I'm going to adpot your suggestion of giving players a budget from which they buy their gear. But it will be much lower than 17000 gold. That would result i neverybody having Daedric equipment. I'm thinking about just giving people the same amount of money they get now. Orcish armor costs + magic Elven sword comes to about 3500 gold so that leaves people with 1500 gold + bonuses from skills for additional magic gear.

Here's a list of the balance chages I've made:
Spoiler
RACES

Each race has a special ability and gets a +10 bonus to 4 skills.

Altmer
Special ability: 50 Fortify Magicka
Skills: Alchemy, Alteration, Destruction, Illusion

Argonian
Special ability: 100% Resist Poison
Skills: Blade, Illusion, Light Armor, Security

Bosmer
Special ability: Invisibility
Skills: Blade, Light Armor, Marksman, Sneak

Breton
Special ability: 20% Resist Magic
Skills: Alteration, Conjuration, Mysticism, Restoration

Dunmer
Special ability: 60% Resist Fire
Skills: Blade, Destruction, Light Armor, Mysticism

Imperial
Special ability: 60% Resist Shock
Skills: Blade, Blunt, Destruction, Heavy Armor

Khajiit
Special ability: 15% Reflect Damage
Skills: Blade, Hand-to-hand, Illusion, Light armor

Nord
Special ability: 60% Resist Frost
Skills: Blade, Blunt, Heavy Armor, Restoration

Orc
Special ability: 30 Fortify Health
Skills: Block, Blunt, Hand-to-hand, Heavy Armor

Redguard
Special ability: 25% Shield
Skills: Blade, Block, Heavy Armor, Light Armor

BIRTHSIGNS

Apprentice: 100 Fortify Magicka, 20% Weakness to Magic
Atronach: 20% Spell Absorption, 200 Fortify Magicka, Stunted Magicka
Lady: 30 Fortify Health
Lord: 5 Restore Health for 10 seconds on self (costs 100 Magicka)
Lover: Paralyze for 3 seconds on touch (costs 100 Magicka)
Mage: 50 Fortify Magicka
Ritual: 20% Resist Magic
Serpent: 10 Damage Health for 5 seconds on touch (costs 100 Magicka)
Shadow: 100% Chameleon for 3 seconds on self (costs 100 Magicka)
Steed: 100% Resist Paralysis
Thief: 20 Fortify Luck
Tower: 15% Reflect Damage
Warrior: 25% Shield

SKILLS

All skills are governed by Personality.

I have also figured out a way to make summoning spells one time only: potions. I've created potions for all the allowed summoning spells and tests show that NPCs use them. Only problem is that this way summoning spells have no Magicka cost so to balance it out I reduced duration of the effect to 60% of the regular duration.

Crazy Jim has fallen. Jane may not have been the one to deal the final blow, but she was the first to prove that Jim was actually beatable. Congrats, Gurgog. You have beaten the best.

Congratulations, Gurkog. I never really expected Jim to become so awesome, and I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed he lost, but it was also pretty cool to see him beaten.

I'll just have to try harder next time...

Edit: Looked at the changes for next tournament. I think it looks pretty good. When does the tournament start?

if Jim took blunt instead of blade and used the Mace of Leeching or whatever it is that I used.... I probably would not have won.

I've got http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZbKx2XHW28 for that, too.

It helps if you close your eyes and imagine the silhouette of Gurkog against the sinking sun walking slowly away from your point of view, victorious but not outwardly jubilant. Reserved and stoic. Contemplative even.

More likely staggering in a drunken stupor. I drank way too much victory champagne.

Probably in about a month or so. I need to take a break and do some serious work first. ;)

I'm not so sure about that. I think Gurkog would have still won because of his higher AR and Blunt skill. What worked most in Gurkog's favor is that the battle was fought at level 26 which was just enough for his magic skills to reach 50. In a regular tournament Gurkog would have spent the first two rounds casting Apprentice level spells andhe'd only upgrade to Journeyman in the semi-final match. Crazy Jim on the other hand has 50 Conjuration and Restoration already at level 16 so he has his journeyman level spells throughout the entire tournament.

I think the ultimate character would have to be:

Gender: Male
Race: Breton
Birthsign: Atronach
Class: Deadliest Warrior
Specialization: Combat
Favored Attributes: Luck, Endurance
Combat Skills:
1. Alchemy
2. Alteration
3. Conjuration
4. Block
5. Blunt
6. Heavy Armor
7. Restoration
Magic Item Budget: 5000
Total magic item value: 4949
Weapon: Mace of Feeding (2154)
Shield: Sylvan Barkshield (1815)
Armor: heavy
Ring: Ring of Blunt Force (980)
Alchemy: 2 Potions of Healing
Spells: Restore Health (self). Summon Skeleton Guardian, Shield (self)
AI: default

Health: 232
Magicka: 700
Fatigue: 310
Damage: 17.3 physical + 4 Absorb Health for 4 seconds
Armor Rating: 33.8 from armor + 4.75 from Elven shield + 15 from enchantment + 30 from spell = 83.5 AR
Special Defences: 50% Resist Magic, 50% Spell Absorption

For comparison, Gurkog has 250 Health, he does 18.8 physical damage with his mace, and he has 85 AR. But he doesn't have potions that would heal him by 70 points. Gurkog also has ess Resist Magic and on average he Absorbs only 4 point of health with his mace, while my Deadliest Warrior does 6.

Gurkog does: 3.1 physical damage + 4 Absorb Health
Deadliest Warrior does: 2.6 physical damage + 6 Absorb Health

After we factor in the healing received the effective total damage output is 1.1 for Gurkog and 4.6 for the Deadliest Warrior.

That's the theory at least. I might run a fight to see how it really goes.

Edit: I ran 4 test fights and Gurkog won 3 times. The fights take really long though. I took away their summoning spells to speed things up and the fights still took 3 minutes each. Generally Gurkog is the first to start healing himself, meaning that he is in fact losing at first. But becasue the fights last so long they eventually run out of charge in their maces which is something I didn't consider in my theory. Another thing is that as the fight progresses, their armor gets damaged nad their AR drops. But Gurkog has 57 Shield enchantment and my guy only 45. A third effect I haven't considered in my theorising is that they don't make optimal use of the weapon enchantments. Absorb Health can get broken if they move too far apart and if they make 2 quck hits they effectively waste a charge.

I'll now check what happens if they do use their skeletons.

The skeletons didn't change anything. Gurkog still won through sheer durability. He seems to be pretty much the ultimate character, at least as far as the final two rounds are concerned. But for the first two rounds of aa torunament having Breton as your race would be better.

In other news, I've uploaded my balance changes to tesnexus so that anyone who wants to use them in their tournament can do so: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36894

I was fiddling around with a screenshot and made a http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a313/dragatus/Oblivion/Gurkog.jpg (1280 x 1024).

Edit: Turns out it isn't 1280 x 1024 because Photobucket thought it should shrink the image or something. Imageshack again decided it should reduce image size to 800 x 600. Finally decided to use megaupload: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=T5241ZPW
