We were to set off on a expedition to the Americas. Our scout planes came back with intel of great importance. The Americas were covered with snow, ice, and coldness, as was most of our known world. They were life there, oh yes, but, as far as we could tell, it was disorganization.

"Artyom." I heard a shallow voice behind me. I turned back. I saw Aleksi standing behind me.

"Aleksi." I said to him "Are we going?"

"No, not yet. The planes still need to get back, they've been bombing out a city called 'San Diego'." He said, a cigarette was in his mouth. He pulled it out and flicked it over the side of the ship. He turned back to me "Artyom, how's Lev doing?"

"Good, he should be out any time now." I said. I stuffed my hands in the pocket of the coat I was wearing. Snow landed all over the ship "Who's in our squad?"

"You, me, Lev, Andrey, Anatolii, and Oleg." He said

"Good! Good!" I exclaimed. I turned and looked out to sea. Lev, Andrey, Oleg, and Anatolii came out of a door as Aleksi and I watched the ocean.

"Sir, we are ready." I heard Lev say. Aleksi turned around and shook Lev's hand

"Get all the weapons and supplies into the Chopper. We depart in one hour. Go!" Aleksi said.

Not a step back

March 19, 2281 *9 Years Eariler*

I woke up in my small "house" in Metro in the Oblast of Stalingrad. Stalingrad, above ground, was a wasteland. Nothing but raiders inhabited it. Up top, the city was relatively besieged by the Red Army. The raiders mooched off of raided hand carts, which were the closest things we got to vehicles underground. But even those were starting to become less and less frequent as the Red Army is reportedly shelling the city with Mortars and Howitzers. A bang crackled from above and dirt fell from the ceiling. A old man walked into my room.

"Artyom. Nikolai wants you." He said, then walking away. "Lets go." He said, worry was in his face as we walked down the metro.

"Whats going on, Nikolai?" I asked him. He turned to me with a nervous look.

"We are both to go up to the top." http://hpronline.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Vladimir_Putin_official_portrait.jpg said. A girl, whom I loved secretly, Sasha, looked at us both

"Nikolai! Artyom!" She said with glee. Nikolai looked at her and she frowned. We kept walking. People watched as we walked up to the ladder.

"Halt!" commanded a officer at the ladder "No one to pass!"

"I, and my friend, Artyom, are here to collect supplies from Stalingrad." Nikolai said. The officer nodded and let us pass

"Watch out for the loose steps!" the officer hollered up as we climbed. I could hear the blasts of the mortars from above. A low growl came from the top of the ladder as we walked up.

"Wait." Nikolai said as he went up first

"Ack! Art- GO!" He screamed as a claw shot through his chest. Blood splattered all over the wall. http://images.wikia.com/metro2033/images/4/4c/Metro2033_%282%29_2010-03-23_14-08-41-71.jpg, its fur, its claws. I hauled myself over the concrete up. The creature bellowed and turned to me. I shot my rifle at its head, its eye blew out of its socket. The creature shrieked in pain, and growled in rage. I fired once more, this time, its other eye. It couldn't see, but that didn't matter, it could still hear. It heard me pull back the bolt. As I finally finished the process, the creature was already swiping at me. It flung the rifle down the long way down.

"No." I muttered as it fell. I pulled out my http://images.picturescraze.com/picture/3/m/makarov_gun-9122.jpgand pointed it at the creature, only to find to I had not reloaded it. I threw it on the ground as the creature swiped. Thankfully, it slammed its claw into the wall. I grabbed Nikolai's rifle and trained it at the creature's heart area.

"Goodnight [censored]!" I screamed as I pulled the trigger. The fatal shot. It stumbled back, and falling to its death to the metro tunnels below. I turned to Nikolai's dead body.

"Nikolai..."I whispered over his body "Why...."

I slung his body over my shoulder and carried him. I carried him to the top. When the metro stairs ended and a ruined inside of a building laid infront of me. I threw his body down and laid it against a box. I slung his rifle around my shoulder and walked out. I saw a Red Army solider and officer walk near me.

"Hey! Over here!" I called "Help!"

They looked toward me and ran over.

"Whats wrong?" asked the Officer

"My friends dead! The ladder that leads to the Oblast Metro is destroyed!" I said to them

"Come with us." They said

That is how I got into the Red Army. Not the best ways, but it was a way. Nikolai's body was sent down back to the Metro and they were told I was going to the Red Army. I never did see the Stalingrad Oblast Metro again.

A few minor errors, but all in all, a good fan-fic. Keep it, I hope to see the next chapter soon.

Chapter Two

Decemeber 24, 2300

As the three Mi-8's rotors spun to life, our squad loaded into one of them. Two machine gunners on PKM's stood on the door openings on the sides of the Helicopter. After a few minutes, the choppers took off and few toward the land. We all had no idea what we would meet on the ground. No one spoke a word on that trip, no one. I heard a thunder around us, a MiG flew by, on its way to the mainland. I slowly dosed off, sleeping, dreaming

I awoke with a hit on my shoulder

"Lets go!" I saw Aleksi say. Lev was standing over me, he grabbed my hand and pulled me up. I grabbed my rifle and gear and walked over to the ledge.

"Watch it!" Aleksi said, putting his arm infront of me and Lev.

"Why?" Lev demanded

"Okay, then, watch this." He said, He grabbed a water bottle and threw it off. We didn't hear it hit the ground.

"Ah...." Lev said with nervous in his voice.

"Nikolai...." I muttered as Lev said that. Aleksi shushed the team.

"Give me that rope!" He grabbed a rope "Pilot! Lower it to roping level damn it!"

The chopper quickly dropped hight until we were below the clouds. I leaned over, seeing a snow covered wasteland.

"Artyom! Help me tie this!" He said, motioning for me to help him tie the rope "Rest of you, put on your Gas Masks!"

The men shifted on their Gas Masks as Aleksi and I finished. I put on my mask, as did Aleksi.

"Lets go." Aleksi said. He grabbed the rope and slid down. The rest followed suit. I did too. I hit the snow and ice covered ground with a thud. I slowly regrouped with my squad and the two others.

"Welcome, Artyom." said Lev, patting my back.

"Artyom." said Aleksi "You and Lev, check that house. Stepan, go with them."

"ACK! HELPP!" Stepan shrieked as he was pulled into the house.

"Go!" Lev said, he wouldn't budge

"No! You!" I said

"Fine, we both." He said. We ran into the house. I found Stepan's body, laid on a wall, his chest full of stab wounds

"Son of a [censored]!" Lev muttered as he shined his light on the body.

"GET OUT OF HERE!" A voice boomed from upstairs.

"Who are you?" I asked. A man in a white lab coat walked down the steps

"I am Doctor http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100415012624/metro2033/images/thumb/e/e8/Khan.jpg/506px-Khan.jpg of the NCR, or...was. This was a lab for observation on the coast. The NCR wanted to see if there was anyone out there. Looks like there was." He said "Now, you must die."

He pulled out a .44 Magnum and pointed at me

"Die!" Lev screamed. He fired is AK at the man, who was hit in the head, and chest. I walked over to his body and shot it in the head. I turned to the door, and started to it.

"Lets go."
