If you really want to get into that container, you can take the Infiltrator perk which allows you to have a second go at broken locks. I think it's a useless perk, but YMMV.

Spoiler
It's better to just practice at the minigame. If you're good at it, you can usually get three attempts to pick a lock before breaking a bobby pin, and then you can back out of the minigame and try again. The lock will reset, but you can repeat this as many times as you need to get the lock open. I've never had to force a lock.

Or you could reload a save previous to when you broke the lock and try it again.

Or, if you're on the PC, you can use console commands to unlock the container.

Other than that, there's really nothing else you can do, and there will not be a key. There won't be any quest critical items in that container, just some random loot.

I'm a bit confused, do you mean that the gate to the Farragut West Metro Station is locked? If so then you have some sort of glitch. If you're trying to get to GNR Plaza to get information about Dad, the only way to go there is enter the Metro station and use the tunnels.

no, when you go through the metro there is a locked gate (with about 5 ghouls behind it) then a locked door. i broke the lock on the gate and i cant find a key or a way round

This should be in the Spoilers forum, but I'll hide it here.

Spoiler
When you're facing the gate, turn completely around and you should see a small office. Go into that office and locate the first aid kit sitting on the desk. The gate key should be in that first aid box. Make sure you grab the skill book and the other loot in there too.

There should be a key in the office nearby. You can also enter from the metro station in the north, or from the eastern metro, next to Rivet city (you're in for some hard fights if you choose that way, though)
