Oldschool time for all!

I just recently downloaded Daggerfall, and I love it. But I remembered something...

Fallout 1 and 2!

Anywhere I can download these for free?

And if I do, do I need a special thing on my computer to play them with?

Since I'm fairly sure Daggerfall is indeed free officially, I'm going to go ahead and assume you mean legally.

The answer is you can't AFAIK.

You can however purchase them for peanuts from most online gaming download stores, including STEAM and Good Old Games.

Daggerfall was officially released for free by Bethesda due to the 15th anniversary of TES

FO1 and FO2 weren't made by Bethesda and Interplay haven't released them for free

But like what Agent_C said you can find them really cheap.

They have been re-released recently into the Fallout Trilogy(which is a little misleading as it does not have Fallout 3, it has Fallout Tactics).

I think I saw a copy in the local Futureshop for about $30 Canadian. If I didn't already own all three games I would pick it up in a heartbeat!

Speaking of that trilogy, does anyone who purchased it know whether the games have been "updated" to work with Windows XP without having to run it in Compatibility mode?

I could run it in XP just fine without compatibility mode, so I guess it was updated :)

You know, if that's the case I'm definitely going to pick it up at a later date. :celebration:

My original Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 wouldn't work properly on my new(est) computer(Dual-core). None of the text would show up in the little window(where damage is shown, and descriptions of surroundings, etc.). All there would be would be a large '.' Then if I was attacked by anything(usually the rats at the beginning of Fallout) the game would crash to desktop(this was with or without running in Compatibility mode). I was able to run the Gametap versions of them, but the end cinematics would stutter and skip(so I would basically miss most of the end narrative).

The reason I posted all that is that I was curious as to whether or not you ran into this or not with the new versions.

nope none of that, not even on windows 7 do I get it (all I had to do was a little work around to get the colours working right)

the only problem I get is sometimes the screen will flash black and then i'll only be able to see my character and all I need to do to fix this is go into the save screen and then get back into playing again.

I recall hearing about the black-screen happening, but that never occurred on my gaming.

If the price is right I will get it, as it will be nice to see the end cinematics again(I never saw them properly for Fallout 2). Thanks for the help.:)

Just be careful. I tried to play Fallout 2 on Windows 7 64bit and couldn't get it to run. I don't think you'll have trouble if you run Wine or Windows XP, but apparently there are issues with Vista and Windows 7.

Thanks for the warning, but unless I win the lottery(or get a better-paying job) I won't be upgrading to a new computer anytime soon. Therefore it will be XP for the foreseeable future.
