How do I change global variables?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:43 am

I just installed Fliggerty's "Improved Hand-to-hand" mod, and I don't like how often hands break in it.
His readme says
To change the chance of having your hand break, all you need to do is change the global
variable fl_in_chance. The default setting is 5; lower values increase the chance of
it breaking, higher values decrease it. Setting it to 0 will disable hand breaking
altogether.

However, I don't know how to do that, and some research and experimentation has been futile. Can someone help me?

Step 1: Open console
Step 2: Type "set fl_in_chance to x", where x is the desired value.
Step 3: ????
Step 4: PROFIT!

Use the ~ key to open the console. Type the following (without quotes) 'Set to '.

Edit: Beaten to it...

That's what I first thought to do, but it then tells me 'Script SysWindow CompileAndRun error Line 1. Could not find variable "fl_in_chance"'
I'm not very familiar with this sort of thing, so I assumed I was doing it wrong.

Yeah, and you forgot "PROFIT!" >.>

EDIT: and if you're getting *that* error, it would indicate that either the plugin is not running properly, or you may be misspelling the variable.

Sure enough. I used the "show variables" command to see it, and it turns out it's spelled with an h, not an n.
