Three Strange Bugs

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 10:01 am

Okay, so I'm having three weird issues;

1) - Whenever I take a screenshot in game it looks greyscale and stretched oddly. What would cause the screenshot functionality of the game to do this? I've been having this problem for a while, I just didn't need to take any screenies until now :P

2) - At certain angle the IC distant LOD's turn bright yellow; I don't mean like a lighting effect I mean it looks normal, then you turn your camera one degree to the north and suddenly it looks like the entire thing was colorized bright yellow. I have only recently started using TES4LODGen, and wondered if that may somehow be causing this? I've been having the problem for a few days, and re-run the LODGen a few times.

3) - My mod replaces the mesh of a barrel called MiddleBarrelTopped3 with a copy of itself that just has different texture paths. For some reason after I replace the mesh I can't select the barrel in-game anymore. I replace a few other containers, and all the others I tested worked fine, just not these. I DID notice that the mesh was also replaced by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, so are there possibly issues with the mesh (which I copied)?
(it turns out the barrels of this type I found were all statics using a container mesh and added by Better Cities)

Anyway, sorry to whine about bugs like this, but I don't know how to fix these things so I figured this would be the place to ask ;)

1) Try turning off AA

2) I have noticed that before as well. Make sure you re-run TES4LODGen EVERY time you change your load order. Also, make sure that mods that install there own far NIFs are up-to-date (i.e., BC.)

What Resolution are you running at if 1366x768 Oblivion does not like that, has I recenlty upgraded to a LCD native Resoultion 1366x768 and cannot take screenshot anymore at that resolution,

Set game to 1360x768 and able to take screenshots with AA still enabled and hdr..ATI 3650

I don't actually have AA on, but thank you. I hadn't realized you need to rerun LODGen every time you change LO; I guess I shoulda looked into it more thoroughly, thanks :P

#2: Yellowing on LOD is caused by _far.nifs with specular data still in the nodes. The most common cause is the aqueduct from Let the People Drink. Lots of people have that mod, and the _far.nif files were done long before I slaved to figure out what needs to be chopped off to optimize and reduce visual anomalies.

Anything else that has VWD files with specular data? I myself noticed the yellow tint for a while a few days ago, but it was temporary. I did some research and found out about the _far.nifs having specular data, but I didn't want to go through all my _far stuff and look manually, and by then the issue has ceased. I'm still curious, though.

A manual bug hunt is the only way you'll find it. I figured out the aqueduct thing by a bit of educated guessing since I was seeing the problem only when facing toward the IC at night, with the aqueduct in view. Since none of my own files at the time were suspect, it didn't take long to work out which mod added the offending meshes and then correct them and confirm it was the cause.

You can eliminate RAEVWD straight away as long as you've got version 1.7. Also the ULs as long as they're all recent versions. So that may help with narrowing it down, but you still need to know which mods included _far.nif files and there's only one way to check.

I have not used RAEVWD or LtPD. For me, the issue had to be BC. Try a clean upgrade, and make sure to re-run TES4LODGen. What mods are you running anyway?

I recently saw that yellow effect on the burned out houses added by the lost coach UL and only when facing west from the shore and standing due east of the houses.

Perhaps they too have specular info?

I only ever had a problem with the IC. A UL would not have replaced the IC far NIFs...

Not what I meant. I mean the houses added by the UL were yellow.

Actually not what I wrote either.

Oh, that was just a comment...well, I want to know if this problem has been fixed. I only had the issue once or twice.

The burned houses in Lost Coast are all standard Kvatch pieces, and those _far.nif files are all fixed properly in RAEVWD. They don't exist in vanilla.

The source of the yellowing could be from anything within the field of view, even something you can't see.
