I seem to be having issues with the game freezing very frequently. Seems when I go into small buildings or things that help to trigger further quests it freezes with the radio still playing if its on. I have uninstalled it a few times and reinstalled. Ran it in safe mode, installed it in safe mode, downloaded the latest 1.7 patch, even bought an even better video card ($230) than the one I had.

I am currently in the Arefu - West Residence where the two dead bodies are and it seems almost impossible to get out of this part without it freezing up on me. It'll either freeze as soon as I load it up, get near the bodies, or try to walk out. But before this is happened frequently in Rivet City and a often froze as a toddler after starting the game. But with this new video card it freezes much less frequently. Just mostly right now in this one room.

I'm having the same problem, I can't complete the radiation part of Moira's quest without the game locking up, sound continues to play but no button responds and the only way out of it is a three fingered salute (Ctrl + Alt + Delete). And I know it's nothing to do with me. I can run Left 4 Dead 2 and CounterStrike: Source fine with zero errors. Here is my DXDIAG info:

Try the quadcore fix
Open up the .ini file located in My Documents>My Games>Fallout 3. *Do not alter the one in the actual game directory labeled Fallout_Default_ini*
In the FALLOUT.ini find the line

bUseThreadedAI=0
change the 0 to a 1

then below it add the line

iNumHWThreads=2

You think this will work for Fallout: New Vegas as well? Cause in some parts, mostly Freeside (in New Vegas) my game seems to want to crash a lot too.

Wow, I had a similar problem to the OP. I tried what you suggested and it works! Thank you so much. My copy of Fallout for PC only arrived today and the near constant freezing was getting me worried, so thanks for helping me out.

Still having this issue of freezing.
