Texturing mesh is very bright - 3DS Max

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:15 pm

Hi

I finally had to make a mesh for TES, making them is ok, but i went thought making it and UVW wraping it, then making the collision only to find that it appears bright, no shadowing.

http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/3143/oblivion201008302345141.jpg its the large awning roof top over there head
http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/3116/tesconstructionset20100.jpg, looked so good i was over the moon

Now i have used NifScope to remove shadowing from a couple of meshes, and thats where i went to look to find NiTriStipsData has no vertex colors. Now im only new to 3ds max, just learning from a heap of video tutorials i have, its made from subdivision editable poly, then converted to editable mesh. Am i to add shadowing to the mesh somehow? I cant find anything on the net, but im probably using wrong terms to find out

Any kind of help is really appreaciated :)

Oh by the way it is using the exact same texture as the walls are too

Check the NIF to see if the NiMaterialProperty node (under the Nitristrip branch) has the same settings for the ambient, diffuse, specular and emissive settings as the originals (it might be that the colors of those settings are different than the original pieces and thus effecting the color (most likely the emissive color is set to something other than Black so the piece is emitting more light than the original pieces )

Thank you JDFan 1000 times, that was it, the emissive color was white.

Is there a way to set that in 3DS or do you have to edit the file to do it? Im using 3ds max 2011

emissive color is set in the material. if you are using the standard materials the setting is self-illumination.

i didn't think the niftools exporter had support for max2011.

Hi Ghogiel

Thank you for that. The v3.4 installs into something like "Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010" and just need to copy the 2 folders over into max 2011 folder then all is well
