That wasn't the epilogue. This is!
Epilogue.
And so it was, a Seeker left the City of Bridges to discover the fate of a family, instead deciding the fate of the wasteland. Compassion, curiosity, sacrifice - these were the virtues that guided the Seeker through her journey.
The mall of Monroeville, once contested ground between ghouls and social outcasts, became a trading hub due to their cooperation. The Seeker, fostering a spirit of trust, dissolved their perceived barriers and mutual ignorance. Although rumours persisted for years concerning the flesh-eating ghouls of Monroeville, the resources of the Mall proved too tempting for traders, and the mall eventually transformed into a trading hub.
Faydra, the last surviving member of the once feared Pitt Raiders, enjoyed her new-found health thanks to the Seeker's cure. Whilst attempting to re-establish the legendary Pitt Arena in the town of Set, the ageing raider was killed in a bar-room brawl over a jilted lover. Nobody mourned her loss, consigning the Pitt Raiders to the dustbin of history.
The Westmoreland Badlands continued to be a no-go zone for anyone of a civilised inclination. Reconnaissance flights from the Set airfield occasionally patrolled the desolate lands, their radios providing a valuable early warning system regarding the migration of Jiangs.
The Commonwealth continued to be a scientific progress in the years since the Seeker's visit. With raiders and criminals avoiding its territory due to G1-01's brutal brand of justice, the androids flourished. Tiring of peacekeeping, G1-01 assisted in top-secret ballistics research in the sealed environment of The Commonwealth, serving briefly in the ruling body of The Commonwealth, The Trustees. Following his service, the android left The Commonwealth's territory, heading south, never to return. Some say he aimed to recover valuable technology from the shrouded ruins of New York. Some say he aimed to emulate the Seeker, and was heading for The District. Regardless, legends began to be told among raiders up and down the east coast of the 'Bulletproof Man'.
The U.S.S. Constitution sailed back to The Commonwealth after transporting the Seeker, to a cold reception. Captain Hartt found his ship impounded for unauthorised export to a foreign power. The Trustees found him guilty, banning him from trading under The Commonwealth's banner. G1-01 personally granted ownership of the vessel to a Mr. D. Lockheart in exchange for scientific data, acquired by the Seeker. After an extensive period of refitting, both for the ship and ghoul, Lockheart eventually departed aboard the Constitution heading east, telling G1-01 that he was 'going home'.
Old Dominion reeled after her defeat in the Battle of Manassas. The unstoppable force of Liberty Prime Mark III devastated Old Dominion's mutant army, stopping once it had secured the MIND unit and returning north. The Major, furious over the Seeker's failure to weaken The District and disgraced over the loss of one of the few remaining MIND units, as well as the MIRV, faced a dishonourable discharge. Returning to Vault 75 with a number of Dominion deserters, he established a community in the uncertain border region. Unable to enforce its authority so far north, Richmond and The District eventually recognised the sovereignty of the tiny buffer state.
Of all the lands that had been visited, the Seeker had the most profound effect on those of The District and The Pitt. Under the skilful scientific watch of the Brotherhood of Steel and Lone Wanderer, the Seeker, having risked life itself for the good of the wastes, fell into a deep coma following the surgery. During the two weeks she was under, the Brotherhood, Lone Wanderer and Doctor Barrows worked tirelessly to integrate the Seeker's DNA, the Modified Forced Evolutionary Virus and the immense purifier at Project Purity. Barrows volunteered himself to a test subject, the formula curing its first victim. The Seeker awoke to see his bandaged face, and be informed that Project Purity was pumping out what he jokingly called 'Aqua Cura'.
For the second time, Project Purity changed the face of the D.C. wastes. Integrated Outcasts sent forth a clarion call from the Brotherhood's colossal MasterMIND tower outside the Citadel, compelling Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls towards the city ruins to drink from the tidal basin. At the Seeker's instance, those ghouls and Super Mutants who were more than mindless beasts were purposefully avoided by the MasterMIND's rays. A trickled of hypnotised mutants became a flood, as dank sewers, subways and vaults were abandoned by mutants in droves.
The Brotherhood, in cooperating with Rivet City Security, supervised the 'Rehabilitants', as feral ghouls regained their senses and skin, whilst Super Mutants began to shrink, their pained grimace turning to confusion. The slow process created an army of naked, hungry refugees, straining The District's resources. The initial strain, and origin of the Rehabilitants, caused them to be treated as second-class citizens in many towns across the wasteland - Rivet City resenting their security commitment and crowded Megaton closing its doors completely. As chaos spread, The Lone Wanderer suggested the Rehabilitants settle in the overgrown and forgotten ruins of Paradise Falls. After clearing out the remains of distant massacre, the Rehabilitants and with the assumed leadership of The Lone Wanderer, Paradise Falls thrived as a self-sufficient community. Remembering their harsh treatment at the hands of The District when they were at their most vulnerable, Paradise Falls maintained an isolationist standpoint against the rest of The District, rebuffing envoys, ambassadors and traders. Content that 'the last great obstacle' had been defeated, The Lone Wanderer presided over the settlement, gently encouraging them to become more receptive to the wasteland he and the Seeker once saved.
The Purifier and and creation of Aqua Cura caused a great rift in the settlements of Underworld and Zen, who valued their mutations as part of their identities. Many saw the cure as an insult and threat to their culture, calling those who wished to be cured 'traitors to mutantkind'. Some even went so far as to attempt sabotage against the MasterMIND tower and Project Purity, only to be cut down without mercy by Brotherhood forces, further increasing tension in The District.
While Fawkes' leadership in Zen continued to teach its peaceful philosophy to placate its angry citizens, Underworld descended into civil war over the issue of the cure. While The District watched the ghouls tear themselves apart, Charon enlisted the help of nearby Freedom's Fields - entering the concourse with negotiators from the nearby settlement and announcing his presence with a shotgun blast. A tenuous peace was formed between the two factions, although those who wished a return to humanity typically did not return to the ghoul city once they had left to drink from the basin.
Underworld was left with ghoul hardliners, who shunned all contact with 'smoothskins', while Freedom's Fields population boomed. The expertise of the former Underworld residents placed the settlement alongside the powerhouses of Rivet City, Megaton and Big Town. Joining The District years later, Freedom's Field delegates were the first to suggest that The District become more than a casual alliance, refurbishing the Capitol Building to act as a meeting place for representatives from all The District's settlements. With organised government and the threat of mutant attack forever removed, the rule of law reigned in what was once known as The Capital Wasteland.
For extraordinary service, the Brotherhood knighted the Seeker, recognising in the traveller the best qualities of their organisation - respect, curiosity, passion. The journey at an end, the Seeker returned home using a unique piece of equipment under the Brotherhood's control - but not before The Lone Wanderer gave a parting gift. Contacting his family in Vault 101, he installed a PipBoy 3000 - complete with detailed plans concerning the formula, the schematics for Project Purity, Vault 75's GECK and a sample of Aqua Cura.
The Seeker returned home with the gifts of The District, sharing them immediately with an amazed Nola. The Seeker, standing on the scaffolding where the Lord of The Pitt once made bold proclamations and challenges, explain to the gathered women of The Pitt how a bright new future awaited them - a Third Rising. The astonished populace pledged their support to the Queen who had saved them once, and would again. Schematics from the PipBoy were loaded into every terminal in The Mill, its production dedicated to the replacation of Project Purity, forged in hard steel one piece at a time. The Seeker, Nola and those not working in The Mill devoted their time to cultivating the virus in the university, while legions of labourers transported components into the decided site of the project, in the intact remains of the Allegheny County Jail, aiming to purify a section of the Monongahela river before the convergence. After months of preparation, the purifier was activated by the Seeker to rapturous applause, as Pitt citizens threw their tongues under the gushing, pure water pipes, unfortunately drowning some.
Months passed. Although the purifier provided water in a select area, intense radiation and mutations remained. The Seeker, riding on a wave of popularity, decreed that another purifier shall be constructed from scratch on the Allegheny banks. The Mill was once again plunged into a flurry of activity, creating a steel replica of the Jefferson Memorial over the ruins of The Strip district. The 29th Street Dome, as it became known, was the first to be imbued with the formula. In the following months, disoriented and malnourished sons began to return to mothers, brothers to sisters, husbands to wives. In The Mill, a pool was started on when Wernher would reappear - although the prize sat unclaimed.
The two purifiers gradually worked to counter the radiation in the Ohio, sending pure water downstream and reducing the mutation rate. It also bred raiders, curious as to how The Pitt and its new Queen accomplished so much from so little - and determined to take their share.
In the years that followed, various raider chieftains, tribal warlords and opportunistic bandits arose to challenge The Pitt's control over her water purifiers and the cure within. The Seeker, now called Queen, would face many challenges and struggles attempting to secure the future of her people, finding that the fight for humanity's future is a war without end. And war... war never changes.
